In a September 2025 podcast appearance, Eric Hughes, Executive Vice President of Global R&D and Chief Medical Officer at Teva Pharmaceutical, discussed the company's strategic shift toward innovative drug development. Hughes stated that "the greatest opportunity at Teva is our innovative pipeline" and described the pivot as an "integral part of our growth strategy." He credited CEO Richard Francis, who joined about six months after Hughes, with accelerating the transformation, saying "when he showed up, it was like throwing gas on fire." Hughes noted that Teva has "always been an innovative company" but is now "really leaning in" on innovation. Hughes addressed the company's approach to partnerships, stating that Teva does not plan to build a large in-house clinical research organization but instead seeks partners who share its vision. He cited a collaboration with Sanofi on a Teva-born molecule, saying "we share that globally with Sanofi" and split profits and costs 50/50. Regarding geopolitical challenges with China, Hughes said "there are ways of doing this" and that "there's more advantages than disadvantages if you know what you're doing." He expressed confidence in Teva's trajectory, noting three large phase three programs with "high probability success" and predicting the company will be recognized as a "leading biopharmaceutical company" within five to ten years.
