In October 2021, Machiel Duijser, Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer at Ecolab, discussed the company's supply chain strategies for advancing carbon reduction in an interview with John Davies of GreenBiz at the VERGE 21 conference. Duijser described Ecolab as a global leader in water, hygiene, and infection prevention solutions, operating at nearly 3 million customer locations across 170 countries. He stated that his role involves acting as the "first customer" of Ecolab's own solutions, applying them within the company's supply chain operations. Duijser outlined Ecolab's approach to meeting its climate goals, which include setting annual targets and establishing oversight committees to track progress toward commitments extending to 2050 for carbon neutrality. He cited digital tools as key opportunities for reducing emissions, including digital twinning to model and optimize unit operations, as well as Ecolab's Water Flow Intelligence platform, which provides real-time visibility into water usage at enterprise, site, and asset levels.
