John Jansen, CEO and co-founder of Deribit, has continued to promote the exchange's role in the crypto options market. In a June 2025 appearance, he stated that Deribit holds approximately 85% of the crypto options market, depending on measurement, and said the exchange competes with legacy markets like the CME as well as crypto-native and DeFi platforms. He described options as "probably the most important" instrument in any market and said the emergence of a premium options player signals industry maturity. Jansen also discussed a Bitcoin yield strategy targeting 10% annualized returns through put selling and covered calls, and noted that use of options in crypto is evolving from speculative deep-out-of-the-money bets toward yield-generating strategies like selling upside calls. Outside of his professional role, Jansen has been active as a religious speaker and community figure. In July 2025, he delivered a sermon at Lichtbaken discussing the dove as a biblical symbol of the Holy Spirit, peace, and hope, drawing parallels to the story of Noah. In earlier sermons in May 2025, he spoke about Jesus as a priest and king, the importance of mercy over sacrifice, and the concept of boldness in approaching God. Jansen has also participated in sailing events, including a regatta in Brazil in March 2025, where he discussed the fundamentals of sailing and his boat, the Jazz.
