Wes Hunt, a Republican candidate for Texas's 7th Congressional District, has argued that "business as usual in DC is over" and called for a new generation of leadership, stating that "we don't need any more 70 and 80 year olds in the Senate." He said the election of President Trump signaled this change and that it is "time for us to take these reins and continue to move the conservative movement forward." Hunt has also criticized the left for "chipping away at our Second Amendment rights for decades" and argued that regulations from agencies like the ATF could "make 40 million Americans felons overnight." He attributed rising crime to a decline in "core values" and said that "black women are the fastest growing demographic of gun owners in America" because they live in "Democrat-run cities with rising crime rates." In other remarks, Hunt argued against gender confirmation surgery for minors, saying that "children are a different story" and that "it is our obligation to protect them." He compared a child's desire for gender-affirming care to a child wanting "ice cream for breakfast lunch and dinner" and said that "many in the American Medical establishment have absolutely lost their minds." Hunt also criticized the Green New Deal, calling it a "job killer" in Houston and stating that "we need to work with oil and gas companies to innovate for the future, not demonize them." He has advocated for more veterans in Congress and for rebuilding trust between law enforcement and communities.
