Jason Wang, a Harvard undergraduate and former competitor in the United States of America Biology Olympiad (USABO) and International Biology Olympiad (IBO), participated in a September 2025 webinar hosted by Baology, an educational organization. During the session, he discussed his high school experiences with biology competitions, including the USABO and IBO, as well as the Research Science Institute (RSI) and science research. He contrasted the time commitments and motivations behind Olympiad preparation versus research, noting that research is collaborative and driven by passion for a specific project, while Olympiad success often appeals to those who enjoy mastering subjects. He also offered advice on competition preparation, stating that dedication and commitment can lead to finals, and recommended having a focused "spike" on a resume while remaining a well-rounded person. Wang, who is a Baology staff member and alumnus of its classes, also fielded questions from attendees during the webinar. His remarks included observations on exam statistics, such as median scores, and guidance on balancing academic achievements with broader personal development.
