Scott Kreeger, president of Red Rock Resorts and Station Casinos, discussed the company's recent expansion and strategic direction in a podcast interview. He noted that the Durango Casino Resort, which opened in December 2023, has performed well, citing the area's growth and lack of nearby competition as key factors. Kreeger said the company had held the land for about 20 years and viewed the region as underpenetrated, with demographics supporting the investment. Kreeger also described a broader shift in the company's approach, stating that about five years ago it moved away from heavy promotional tactics, which he likened to a "hamster wheel." He said the company instead focused on other ways to build customer loyalty, such as investing in team members. He mentioned that the closure of some older properties during the COVID-19 pandemic allowed the company to consolidate its real estate portfolio, with about 90% of customers from those closures migrating to nearby Station Casinos locations.
