About Harsha Agarwal

In a 2017 interview on CNBC-TV18's *Weekender*, Harsha Agarwal discussed Emami's distribution and growth targets. He stated that the company had set an "aggressive target" to expand its direct retail reach from 6 million to 8 million outlets, requiring 400 to 500 new frontline sales staff, with a near-term goal of reaching 2.8 million outlets that year, particularly in rural areas. Agarwal also outlined Emami's financial objectives, saying the company aimed for "double digit volume growth" of about 15% in the short term and a long-term target of reaching 5,000 crore rupees in revenue within three years. Agarwal addressed questions about the company's structure and family dynamics. He said there was "no scope for internal restructuring" and rejected the idea of merging or demerging any brands, stating, "Don't fix anything that isn't broken." When asked about competition, he identified Patanjali's Kesh Kanti as Emami's biggest competitor but noted that Nielsen data did not accurately report Patanjali's market share because it sells mostly through its own stores. He described the relationship between the founding families as "a very natural flow."

We are on behalf of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. It's a great pleasure to welcome Kumar Pal, honorable Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, Government of India; Patel, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Government of India; Srimati Anita Praveen, Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing, Government of India; Mr. Minas Alam, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries; Mr. Satinder Prakash, Principal Director General, Press Information; delegates from industries, senior officials from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries and allied departments, delegates from media, ladies and gentlemen. At this flagship program to unveil the second edition of World Food India 2023, at the outset, FICCI is honored to be associated with the Ministry of Food Processing, India, as the national event partner for this prestigious event. Honorable Minister sir, we are indeed honored and humbled by your presence in our midst today. India is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and offers many investment opportunities, especially in the food processing sector. The Indian food processing sector is growing with an annual growth rate of 8.3 percent, and its output is expected to reach 535 billion dollars by the year 2025-26. We are the largest producer of milk, pulses, spices, millets, and livestock in the world, and the second largest in total food production. As we are aware, the food processing sector in India has undergone several reforms since 2014-15, as the Government of India has accorded the food processing sector high priority status with the overall goal of establishing India as the food basket of the world. The Bharat package of policies and financial measures for the agriculture and food processing sectors have laid the groundwork for promoting global outreach, bolstering the agriculture and food processing sectors in the nation, and serving as a model to establish the Indian economy as self-reliant and self-sustaining. The Government of India has taken significant steps to unleash the huge potential of the food processing sector with many flagship schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana and the Micro Enterprises Production Linked Incentive Scheme, leading to overall development and growth of sub-sectors across the entire value chain. India, with a population base of over 130 crores, rising disposable income, rising spending on food and consumer goods, and a rapidly growing food retail market with acceptance of various global cuisines, has established India as a global hub for food processing as well as food supply. Today, the possibilities for raising food processing levels are endless as India transitions from a position of scarcity to one of surplus in terms of food production. Now it's time to act and realize the full potential of the industry, given its future growth potential and significance in India's economic and social perspective. The second edition of World Food India is being organized with an objective to promote investments in the diverse Indian food processing sector and also to celebrate the year 2023 as the International Year of Millets. The key pillars of WFI this year are: establishing India as a manufacturing as well as export hub, innovation and sustainability, White Revolution 2.0, Blue Revolution, and technology and digitization. The global convention will witness participation from international countries, global CEOs of major food companies, state governments, stakeholders from the Indian food processing ecosystem across the value chain, participation of allied ministries and government institutions, startups, etc. With this, we look forward to your participation and support in making World Food India a successful event. To make the presentation, thank you.

This is a very short and crisp presentation, but I wanted to begin by saying all of us are consumers of food processing. Next is November. You can present, you can promote, you can boost, you can explore, and you can showcase. Who should participate? People who want to network with best practices across the world. Just before going to the next slide, I was asking some people from the food processing industry what are the two things you want to be said, and I can see them in the audience. Number one, they said there's a 10 billion dollar export potential. Number two, it is all about value addition. Green foods, oil, of course, White Revolution and Blue Revolution, dairy products, and of course horticulture and livestock. India as an export hub, industry, and above digitalization. Okay. I can see some international delegates here and state sessions, industry roundtables. Ultimately, FICCI is the voice of Indian industry, industry members, business-to-business, government-to-government, and business-to-government meetings. Next please. Interesting. Digital showcasing on new innovations and what are the achievements. One District One Product and Nutri series. Fourth Street, a startup challenge, buyer-seller meets, and South categories awards. Next please. I'll let you read this. A lot of sessions during the World Food India program, but there's something here for everyone. I hope all of you from the third to the fifth come in and taste the savory on offer. Those are central major World Food India photos, and my name is... Round Table International. In World Food India 2017, we hope to see even more international delegates in 2023. And the final slide is this is the kind of international participation that we had in World Food India 2017. I am confident that with all of us working together, it will be even better in 2023. Thank you very much.
