About Massimo Battaini
Massimo Battaini, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Prysmian, stated in a July 2026 interview that the company has "a firepower for acquisitions as never before" following its latest shareholder meeting, and that organic growth across its four business segments will be complemented by "relevant M&A opportunities" in the coming quarters. He also discussed the global fiber optic market, asserting that Europe is "much less protected" than the United States, noting that while 85% of fiber in North America is produced domestically, Europe imports the majority of its fiber, with Prysmian producing 15 million of the 60 million kilometers consumed in the region.
In a separate interview, Battaini described sustainability as "a moral and ethical goal, but also a business driver." He reflected on Prysmian's transformation since 2022, citing the emergence of the energy transition as a key market shift requiring long-distance cables to connect renewable sources to consumption centers. He also noted a cultural shift within the company, mentioning that employees' children now express pride in working for Prysmian, which he described as a positive sign of the company's evolving brand value.

I would start with Engineer Massimo Battaini, who I see is connected. Welcome, Engineer. Good morning, Chief Operating Officer of Prysmian Group. Prysmian is a world leader in the production of cables for energy and telecommunications. But with Engineer Battaini, I want to bring the discussion back to the hot topic of climate change and the energy transition. What role do energy infrastructure have in connecting these two poles? First, I appreciate the process that has taken place, which thanks to the pandemic, pushed governments, public opinion, and stakeholders to focus on this change. This change from net zero emissions entails an energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables. Network infrastructure is fundamental for investing in renewable energy generation and, above all, in transporting and transferring this energy. The primary renewable source is offshore wind, but generation and consumption are often far apart, so energy connections are crucial. We see this in the market: the high-voltage cable market has doubled and is growing rapidly due to the expansion of renewable energy. The strong transition is driven by net zero objectives and is becoming widespread. You, Battaini, mentioned the strong demand for cables, citing the US, which you know well. How is Prysmian moving in this scenario?

Certainly, we are a leading brand in the energy transition and aim to remain so. Our strategy is double-pronged: innovation to transport energy efficiently, which boosts the transition, and anticipating the market by investing in production capacity. We are innovating to produce longer cables for deeper seabeds and higher energy transfer. For example, the Europe-wide project to transport energy from North Sea wind farms to southern Germany costs half today thanks to innovation. We recently received the Leonardo ship for submarine cable installation and are investing around 300 million euros in factory capacity. Innovation and investment are key to maintaining Prysmian's leadership.

And Engineer, since we spoke of your beautiful factory in southern Italy that makes us proud, one last question: what must we start with to ensure a turning point?

A turning point requires innovation, as I said, but also setting a good example. Our world champion companies must believe in and lead the reduction of CO2 emissions, pushing the market towards this change in our companies and factories.
