We are creating a new benchmark in profitability, safety and electrification. Not one, not two, not 10 - it's 17 trucks. In my opinion, for the driver community, we must do something very important. We need to do frugal innovation for India's specific usage. This has already run more than 350,000 km at customer sites. We have come up with a completely new platform, a completely new engine, a completely new cabin, and the brand Azura. India moves forward with Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles. With these launches, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles has launched the widest range of their trucks in New Delhi. Not one, not two, not 10 - it's 17 trucks. Keeping in mind sustainability, profitability, production and I would say electrification, everything has been balanced out.
And to discuss more about these launches, we have the MD and CEO of Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, Mr. Girish Wagh with me. Thank you sir for your time and congratulations on this grand launch. How would you summarize these launches in one line defining your 'Better Always' philosophy?
So I think in one line, if you want, then we are creating a new benchmark in profitability, safety and electrification. That is my one line response to you. Of course, I will follow it up with explanation later on. But that's something that we have created today.
Great sir. So when you are saying 'Better Always' is the guiding motivation for the CV business that is being led by you. So how does this philosophy shape today's decisions around productivity, safety and future-ready vehicles?
Right, so if you see, I think today's launches of 17 trucks that you said are under these three themes. The first one is profitability. So here what we have done is our multi-axle trucks. The engineers have come up with a very innovative design for the tandem axle suspension. Which actually improves the payload by 1.8 tons. So that's a significant benefit for a transporter. Then in our multi-axle trucks and tractors with the coming 6.7L engine, we have come up with improved thermodynamics, new software calibration, and improved aerodynamics of the cab, which is giving almost up to 8% better fuel efficiency.
Great. So you can imagine, 8% more fuel efficiency, 1.8 ton payload improvement, this will improve the fleet owner's profitability. So this will be the first. Second, safety.
In safety, our engineers have done a thorough study of accidents in our country. They came to a conclusion that one of the improvements that an OEM can do is to increase the level of stringency of the regulations that we can meet, with a purpose of ensuring that in case of an unfortunate accident there is sufficient survival space for the driver. So, we will therefore look at what kind of regulations we can go for. And the European more stringent ECE R29-03 is the regulation that all our trucks we meet now today. Which will ensure better safety in case of an accident. Next, what we have done is in the 7 ton to 19 ton range which we call intermediate light medium commercial vehicle. I think there has been a need for a longer distance, uninterrupted travel, better fuel efficiency especially in e-commerce, especially in fruits and vegetable segment, auto components segment. So for that range we have come up with a completely new platform, a completely new engine, a completely new cabin, and the brand Azura.
Right, so this is kind of a progress theme that we are coming up with. The second vehicle in the progress theme is in the deep mining. As you know, mining is increasing in the country, and you will now have more and more mines needing deep mining. Understanding this requirement and Atmanirbhar Bharat because you know some of these deep mining tippers are imported. Right. So we created an indigenized tipper with a new Cummins 8.5L engine with 800 Newton meter torque. It also comes with automated manual transmission. So a very high level of comfort for the driver and it will increase the number of trips therefore and increase the productivity.
Right. So with this, therefore, we are launching the first in the country kind of a deep mining tip. Lastly, I think our next theme is electrification. Right.
And even in electrification, rather than bringing one vehicle at a time, I think we studied the whole trucking logistics ecosystem. We understood who are those shippers which are more likely towards moving towards electrification, are open towards it, and we actually started working with them: steel, cement, ports, auto components, e-commerce. And working with them we have actually developed this entire range. Right. This also comes with a completely new indigenous modular electric vehicle architecture. So with this architecture we are able to develop right from 7 to 55 ton, various electric trucks which can meet the requirement of decarbonization of various sectors. So nice, before launch we have already piloted in many cases and we are finding good benefit to the customers. I can tell you that depending upon the use case, our customers will be able to get a payback in the electric truck with respect to an equivalent diesel truck in two to four years.
Wow! That's an impressive stat out. So Tata Motors is now defined with the safety series, about passenger vehicles and any factor, so safety is a strategic differentiator in heavy trucks beyond compliance. How do you maintain it? See,
