So 2019 was a good year for us. We were able to close with approximately a 35 percent increase in delivered power, so we increased from about 8.5 gigawatts to 11.5 gigawatts, which corresponds to about seven to eight large power plants. That is a great achievement, we think. At the same time, we were able to significantly increase the order intake for storage, especially for stationary storage, to over 1 gigawatt. And we see this trend continuing, so that is a very good news. Also, the operations management and maintenance expanded; we added more than 1 gigawatt and are now between 4 and 5 gigawatts that we have under contract worldwide. And that is also an important part of the overall offering. But above all, I am very glad that we can further increase our customer focus. We want to be there for our customers, we want to be close to them, we want to have products that are easy to commission and simple to operate. Therefore, our focus is on new software solutions for energy management, but also solutions that help with commissioning, such as the apps that will be presented later. These are things that I find great in the field in the past year.
If you look at how the inverter market presented itself in 2009–10, you can see, not too hard to recognize, that Chinese large manufacturers have the largest share. We were able to hold our third position by actually expanding market share. I will show that the market grew about 9 percent from 18 to 19, and we grew 35 percent. That means we were able to take market share and thus maintain this good position. And this is, of course, a representation on a gigawatt basis. If you look at it by revenue, the individual players are much closer together. One other interesting thing to note is that the top six players, as color-coded here, now account for 73 percent, while the year before it was about 60 percent. So consolidation is progressing, and it is doubly nice that we are still part of it and can go along with this trend. 2020 started very well. The first quarter revenue was 70 percent higher than the first quarter of last year, with slight profitability, and the delivered power more than doubled. That is of course a very good signal for us.
Now we come to the Corona time, the 52 gigawatt cap discussions. Quarter 2 pulled it down a bit. Quarter 2 was worse than originally expected, but we are very glad that we are fully capable of delivery at all times and that we are now seeing order intakes rising again and expecting a significantly better quarter 3, contrary to expectations. How is the market development in the PV area? If we look at that, then I mentioned Corona effects. Here you can see for 2020, we would otherwise have gone from about 100 gigawatts to 140 gigawatts in 2022–23, 10 gigawatts more new installed worldwide per year. Accordingly, for this year 2020 we expect 120 gigawatts in our best estimate; as of today we think we will land at 100 gigawatts, about 18 percent lower than initially thought without Corona. There are also other effects: the Chinese market is currently a bit lower than originally thought, and the 52 gigawatt cap in Germany has of course contributed its part. But we also see growth at SMA this year and hope to gain further market share. And today, when we talk about residential and commercial, we also see a good increase this year and, especially in the next few years, significantly higher than the 100 to 140 gigawatts, 18 percent per year, or even more.
So overall, it looks very good, and looking at the overall situation out to 2030, we see an increase to about 300 gigawatts per year worldwide. Of course, electromobility comes into play strongly, as well as power-to-gas and other topics that will directly help us. And overall, one can say that PV has become cheap, so this growth can no longer be stopped and will continue. We have positioned ourselves accordingly: the three Ds that are very relevant for us are decarbonization, decentralization, and digitalization. That means in the home sector but also in commercial larger installations, the sectors are merging. We need to understand how to combine heating, climate control with photovoltaics and storage, which is becoming increasingly important, so that we can offer a solution that optimizes the energy needs of an entire house or building. We are very, very busy with that, and it is progressing well.
