Hello everyone and welcome to this special edition of Sun Devil Extra. I'm Tim Healy, the radio play-by-play broadcaster for Sun Devil Athletics and your host for today's program. Our topic of conversation is a transformational partnership, or I guess I should say really the elevation of a transformational partnership between Sun Devil Athletics and Align Technology Inc. involving the naming rights to ASU's brand new indoor football practice facility. My guest today, Sun Devil Athletic Director Graham Rossini and Joe Hogan who is the Chief Executive Officer of Align Technology Inc. And Joe, let me start with you. You already had a partnership, a corporate partnership with Arizona State Athletics and now in this transformational philanthropic gift that you're making to the university and to the athletic department for the naming rights to the football practice facility, you've literally taken that partnership to the next level. From your company's perspective, what makes and what has made and will continue to make Sun Devil Athletics such an attractive partner, business partner for your company?
The partnership started with your athletic facilities and a football team and the relationship that we have with ASU overall. The reputation of ASU is just terrific, not just for athletics but when you think about what Michael Crow has done with that university over the years, it has to be the real story of a university that's really hit a peak in the marketplace in the United States over time. And I saw that from a distance when I didn't live here, but when you come here you just understand how transformative that's been to the community. So, we start with the athletics part but it's also being in association with a terrific university and one that's very successful.
Graham Rossini, it seems to me that we are seeing the personification of the words that Kenny Dillingham has spoken from the moment he was hired here as head football coach in November of 2023. One of his favorite sayings is 'activate the valley' to get local businesses and local citizens involved directly in Sun Devil athletics and this is putting those words into action, is it not?
It really is. This could not be a better example of what 'activate the valley' can mean and it starts with us working hard every single day to be a point of pride for the community and then ultimately be a connection point for leaders and businesses and corporations that have picked the valley as their headquarters to understand how they could plug in and how they could plug in a way that's additive to the student athlete experience, the fan experience, the performance outcomes that we're seeking and at the same time drive incredible value back for our partners. And so when Joe talks about following the extension of ASU from afar then coming to the market and understanding everything that this university has accomplished, everything that this university is capable of and how they fit in directly to the work that we're trying to accomplish. It's fun to think about what more we can do together and so this is a really wonderful moment that we're so grateful and proud of and can't wait to see what more heights we can take this.
We see it both ways. I think obviously we're in good cooperation with a well-known entity when you look at ASU too, but when you think of Align Technology and Invisalign, it's really a combination of two. It's a high-tech company but it's also a brand company too. And so it's an opportunity for us to enhance our brand through the university. It's a chance for this will be a consumer play but also a student play, also for us to be able to educate that piece and so I see this being multifaceted Tim in the sense of how we can work together and what we can do.
And it is a multifaceted partnership that you have. It's been a corporate partnership, now with this corporate philanthropy, your generous donation to obtain the naming rights to the football practice facility, but on another level your company has been involved with NIL engagements for Arizona State student athletes in all different sports. Talk about that and what the value has been for your company in that particular endeavor.
Yeah, and mentioning we're a technology company, we're the biggest 3D printing company in the world and few people know that. Everything we produce, a million Invisalign aligners per day and each one of those devices are different. And so we've really had to capture 3D printing in order to do that in a way no other company in the world could ever do that. Now we're looking at branching out in that technology and we're really excited about it and it's wonderful that it's right across the river from it.
Graham, a lot of talk about the facility. Talk about the indoor facility, how it will be used and its value to your athletic department moving forward.
