Welcome back to Global AI Lens. The India AI Impact Summit is just four days away. Over 100 countries are expected to participate. California-based global silicon-to-systems design company Synopsys will showcase its AI-led engineering solutions at the 2026 Summit. The event comes soon after Synopsys announced its $35 billion acquisition of Ansys. The deal strengthened Synopsys' capabilities in physics-based simulation and advanced chip design. It is expected to be a key enabler for next-generation AI systems across automotive, robotics, and industrial sectors. Dr. Prith Banerjee, senior vice president of innovation at Synopsys, joins us now at the India AI Impact Summit. He will be speaking on the role of AI and machine learning in electronic design automation and engineering simulation, with a focus on AI-driven design flows and digital twins.
Prith, thank you very much for being with us. Why don't you break down for our viewers first as to what is the kind of innovation that you would like to showcase to the Indian public, the Indian media, and the Indian government at the AI Impact Summit?
Thank you very much, Parikshit, for inviting me to speak to your audience. You mentioned that Synopsys acquired Ansys. I used to be the CTO at Ansys before that acquisition. I'm now leading our innovation across the different portfolios around IP, electronic design automation, and simulation. So, what we are going to showcase is the future of intelligent products. Products in every industry, like automotive, aerospace, healthcare, high-tech, and energy, they're getting transformed by what we say is silicon-designed, software-enabled, and AI-driven — three pillars. So, when you look at a car these days, right? You have a software-defined vehicle where the car is becoming intelligent with the software that runs on the electronic chips that drives these things. And all of those will be AI-driven. So, what we are going to showcase is how Synopsys is embracing the concept of AI. The specific area is what is called physical AI, where it is not just the foundational models of the large language models with words as tokens, but the physics of the world AI models that are around us. And we are going to use that AI to build intelligent products across different industries.
Right. Let me also give us a sense of how Synopsys is investing more in terms of getting ready for an AI future and also serving its customers for their AI needs.
Absolutely. So, Synopsys, our mission is to empower innovators in every industry. And so, let me kind of break it down. Synopsys used to be the leading developer of electronic design automation systems to design the electronic chips that you have heard from that go up to a trillion transistors. We used to help our customers in designing those electronic chips using what is called electronic design automation tools. But these chips are getting more and more complex every day. So, and the pace of innovation is advancing. And so, in order to address the pace of innovation and the complexity, the challenges are so much that we are embracing the power of AI to build with these to address these complexities. So, specifically, we are investing in an area of what is called agentic AI, where if you have engineers that are designing these electronic chips, these intelligent systems, you would run out of the complexity so much you'd require almost a billion people, 10 billion people to design these systems. What we are doing is using agentic AI techniques to build what are called agent engineers to complement the human engineers. So, the combination of human engineers with agent engineers are going to help our customers across different industries — automotive, aerospace, healthcare, high-tech, and energy — to build these incredibly intelligent systems. So, we are embracing the AI technologies, foundational models for physical AI, and agentic AI to help our customers to innovate very, very intelligent products.
All right. Let me also ask you about the importance of India in terms of your growth strategy. What's your workforce like in India? How do you plan to scale up your workforce? And how will it contribute to your revenues in the next five to seven years?
