About Ming Zhou

Ming Zhou, Senior Vice President of Software Development - Structural Analysis and Optimization at Altair Engineering, delivered a welcome address for the OpenRadioss Users' Day 2025 on July 16, 2025. In his speech, Zhou stated that he and "GM Eric" were driving forces behind the decision three years ago to open source the industrial code, which he described as a "very brave step." He said the initiative focused from day one on building an engaged community and that the idea was discussed with companies and experts such as LM Sur and Paul Dubois, who responded positively. Zhou said the goal was to serve the global community and enable faster innovation, and he noted that the explicit dynamics analysis community faces new challenges such as electric vehicle and battery safety problems. He added that an open platform engaging with academic communities would open new directions for innovation. Zhou said the growth of the community and enthusiasm "proved that we did the right thing" and cited the open source model DeepSeek as an example of a strengthening global open source movement. He thanked attendees for contributing technically and on the application side. In a September 2022 interview previewing the K trade fair, Zhou said Altair brings solutions enabling digital transformation of the entire process from material supply and carbon footprint data capture to engineering products that reduce carbon footprint. He stated that Altair resonates with the entire supply chain from material to product delivery and aims to build digital solutions that bring the operational phase of products back into the development cycle and circular economy. Zhou described circular economy and digitization as hot topics and expressed enthusiasm for face-to-face meetings with customers.

Visitors to the K are looking forward to seeing the newest innovations, and we are looking forward to seeing what Altair is bringing to the gaming community. Can you give us some insight?
M
Ming Zhou0:10
This is the event that we feel our technology really resonates with all other presenters and also the entire supply chain of plastics. I've spoken to some previous presenters, and what they have shown is that the innovation happening within the industry right now is driving a lot of demand for technology development. So what we bring to the table is a solution that enables the digital transformation of the entire process, from material supply, capturing the carbon footprint data, to engineering process, engineering better and innovative products that reduce carbon footprint.

What are you expecting from the K in October? Of course, to talk about new innovations and trying to put things together and work together, but anything else?
M
Ming Zhou1:03
We are so excited looking forward to the K in October. I heard there are over 3,000 exhibitors, and that would encompass basically the entire process from material production to the process into manufacturing to final products. So these are the things that we resonate completely with the entire supply chain of the process from material to delivering product, to really also build digital solutions to help bring the operational phase of products back into the development cycle and back into the circular economy.

Circular economy and digitization are two of the hot topics that the industry is talking about. The K will be talking about it, but also seeing people face to face is something that you probably missed over the past years.
M
Ming Zhou1:57
We missed that tremendously. I think it's so nice to be here and meeting people, some of them are customers, and having face-to-face discussions about what type of exciting time we are living in actually, with so many innovations happening. So seeing people face to face and talking about innovations and the newest technologies, that's what's going to be happening at the K in October 2022.
