About Monica Barragan

Monica Barragan, President of ManpowerGroup’s Latin America region, has spoken extensively about the transformation of the labor market and the need for companies to adapt to new workforce priorities. In a 2023 interview, she stated that hybrid and flexible work models are here to stay, predicting that fully remote or fully on-site arrangements will become the minority. She argued that human resources must become a key strategic partner within organizations, working alongside CIOs to address a shortage of soft skills in the digital eraichel. Barragan has also emphasized the importance of “learnability”—the ability and motivation to continuously learn—as a critical competency for employees in a rapidly changing economy. Barragan has frequently addressed gender equity in the workplace. In a 2019 appearance, she noted that while more women are participating in the workforce, they remain underrepresented in leadership positions and on corporate boards, and are overrepresented in jobs at risk of automation. She called for men and women to work together to create opportunities, stating that “gender equity is not just a women’s issue.” In earlier interviews, she discussed ManpowerGroup’s social responsibility programs, including the Fundación Manpower’s “Caminemos Juntos” initiative, which seeks formal employment for older adults and people with disabilities. She described these programs as a long-term business strategy rather than charity, and said that for every peso invested, the company sees a seven-to-one return in employee commitment, client relationships, and corporate image.

I chose Monica to spotlight because she exemplifies what we look for at United Ground Express. Being a general manager who started as a frontline employee, she's really able to bring all of her knowledge to new hires and help them grow because she was once one of them. She does such a great job rounding that together and providing great tools and experience for our employees to grow. She's a great example of if you put your mind to something, work hard, regardless of any barriers in your way. If you want to succeed in this company, in this industry, honestly, if you put your mind to it, you work hard, you learn every aspect of the operation, it's possible to become a manager and anything else that you'd like within this company and beyond.

Hey, my name is Monica Aguilar and I'm an AB manager. I started in 2012 here in ABP, and in 2023, at the beginning of the year, I got the opportunity to be a general manager. My role, even as a lead, even as a coworker in the beginning, I was cross-training and I wasn't even a lead. I was always like telling people, 'Let's do this, let's do that so we can get better.' I like to lead by example, and I told my leads right now, we have to lead by example. If you don't do it, nobody's going to do it. I think that advice would be keep working hard, keep learning everything that you want to need to learn, keep going. You never ever look back, always forward, always forward, and try to do the best that you can. And if it's in your head, there's something that you want to do, you're going to do it.
