Written from the verified transcript and checked against it. Every figure links to the moment it was said.

Sundar Pichai opened Google I/O 2026 by highlighting the company's AI-first strategy and the growth of its AI services. He reported that token processing has grown to 3.2 quadrillion per month, with over 8.5 million developers building on Google's models. He announced new products like Ask YouTube, Docs Live, and Gemini Spark, a personal AI agent. Pichai detailed infrastructure investments, expecting capex of $180-190 billion this year, and introduced the TPU 8t and 8i chips. He also discussed the Gemini 3.5 Flash model, claiming it is four times faster than other frontier models and cheaper, and highlighted the adoption of SynthID by OpenAI, Kakao, and ElevenLabs. He emphasized the company's focus on agents and the agentic era, with Search and other products getting new AI capabilities.

Key takeaways

  1. Token processing grew to 3.2 quadrillion per month, up seven times from last year.
  2. Capex expected to be $180-190 billion this year, about six times 2022's $31 billion.
  3. Gemini 3.5 Flash is four times faster than other frontier models and costs less than half.
  4. Gemini Spark, a personal AI agent, will roll out to trusted testers this week and as a beta for U.S. Ultra subscribers next week.
  5. OpenAI, Kakao, and ElevenLabs are adopting SynthID for AI content watermarking.

Questions asked in this interview

2
  1. 1:14:32Maybe can you come up with some funny analogies so it will be a more engaging talk for the students?
  2. 1:20:14Yeah, well, how about you montage your way down here and help out?
Valkyrae 35:19 ↗
Hello! Wow, good morning, everyone! What is up, Google I/O? I'm Valkyrae, and I'm so excited to be here with you guys today.
Jack 35:26 ↗
And I'm Jack, AKA courage. Shout-out to everyone tuning into the livestream worldwide. We are YouTube creators, gamers and occasionally competitors.
Valkyrae 35:38 ↗
I wouldn't call it much of a competition, though.
Jack 35:40 ↗
Okay, hold on. So today, we're going to be playing a game together. It's called Infinite Scaler. And you can scan that big code right there to pull it up, no download required. Infinite Scaler is basically a massive collaborative experiment. That means over the next 20 minutes, we won't just be competing against each other, although I'll definitely be getting the highest score, but we'll actually be building the game together as we play it.
Valkyrae 36:09 ↗
The game itself is pretty straightforward. You bounce on these little jump pads to climb a tower as fast as you can. If you're too slow, the lights go out below you, and you fall.
Jack 36:22 ↗
But you may have noticed that every level looks completely unique. That's because every block of the tower is a world you guys generate using your creativity and some AI magic.
Valkyrae 36:32 ↗
That means every time you play, it's completely unique. You can create a cyberpunk city or a forest full of capybara. Whatever you dream up, just type it in as long as it's safe for work.
Jack 36:46 ↗
That's right. We don't want to get HR involved. Look, we'll give you a quick peek at how this actually works. You literally just type in a prompt. It can be super simple because our friend Gemini will automatically give it a polish for you on the back end. Then it gets sent over to --
Valkyrae 37:01 ↗
Nano Banana, which makes the background and foreground sprite sheets, adds a little tech magic, takes the depth map and boom, you've got this awesome 3D effect. Like check out the one I made, a tribute to my Shiba Inu Mika. Look how cute he is.
Jack 37:17 ↗
So cute. It's decent. Mine is way better. Spaghetti slippery slide.
Valkyrae 37:23 ↗
Of course, of course. All right, enough talking, let's play. Are you guys ready? You can jump right in on your phone or just grab the link on your computer. This is a play at your own pace type of game so don't stress if you're still getting your devices connected. There will be plenty of chances to jump in later.
Jack 37:39 ↗
All right. Let's go, let's get started.
Valkyrae 37:41 ↗
Let's do this.
Jack 37:42 ↗
Look, Rae, no pressure, there's just thousands of people here in person and hundreds of thousands of people tuned in online.
Valkyrae 37:48 ↗
Okay, I'm feeling the pressure, Jack.
Jack 37:50 ↗
All right. Let's go. Rae is going to get us started. Again, you all with that QR code can join us with the link if you're watching online, from anywhere across the world. Rae is going to show you how it's done. Let's see what record you can set.
Valkyrae 38:03 ↗
Okay. It's pretty simple. You just have to hit the jump pads because there is no jump button. And each room is just so freaking unique and random. I have to lock in.
Jack 38:20 ↗
And these are prompts from you guys at home, that you're sending on in and we're also, as we play, midway through going to take a look at which players set the record, as well as which countries have the most levels and it's important to get up the right side, the rocket.
Valkyrae 38:38 ↗
You need the rocket. I'm rooting for the Philippines. Who are you rooting for, Jack?
Jack 38:45 ↗
You think the Philippines are going to pop up? I think Japan.
Valkyrae 38:48 ↗
Okay, Japan.
Jack 38:50 ↗
Japan is going to do great. Maybe Brazil. All right, so far, it's 30. Look if anyone in the crowd can get over 50 I'll say you're pretty darn good. We did a lot of tests and warmups, and hit some pretty crazy records. Here it comes.
Valkyrae 39:10 ↗
Jack, you're stressing me out.
Jack 39:13 ↗
Basketball uh-oh. Uh-oh.
Valkyrae 39:19 ↗
So good. Okay.
Jack 39:21 ↗
43 levels, new points record. Pretty good.
Valkyrae 39:25 ↗
Let me do it one more time. Okay. My goal is at least 50.
Jack 39:33 ↗
What do you think the most prompted things are going to be? I feel like food, mainly, because they have really good food here.
Valkyrae 39:38 ↗
I think people are going to prompt in their pets. Who doesn't want to see their pets?
Jack 39:42 ↗
That's like a fork battle going on. Robots controlling a ship.
Valkyrae 39:48 ↗
I want to just look at each room, but they're going by so fast.
Jack 39:55 ↗
There's a capybara.
Valkyrae 39:58 ↗
Masseuse. Funny. It's pretty therapeutic, honestly.
Jack 40:03 ↗
Maybe jellyfish DJs would be a good one. That's what we just saw.
Valkyrae 40:07 ↗
I can't believe they intro'd for us. A cow in space.
Jack 40:15 ↗
That's awesome. And again, you all can join worldwide right now, no download required, a link at the top of your screen. All right. You're at 31.
Valkyrae 40:25 ↗
Okay. I'm aiming for 50. What do you think the high score is going to be? Jack, what do you think the high score is going to be?
Jack 40:33 ↗
I think the high score, someone out there is going to get 100 plus. It's going to be crazy. Uh-oh, you got it. You got it. You're good.
Valkyrae 40:41 ↗
You're stressing me out. The thing to know about this is that for each room, you have to hit the jump pad to get through the hole. You can't just go through the bottom.
Jack 40:55 ↗
Are you going to have tips and tricks? I have not had the chance to go.
Valkyrae 40:59 ↗
We're good. There we go. Okay. Don't worry, I know the crowd is going to get real loud when it's my turn. I'll give someone $5, please. Okay. You can't bribe the crowd. That's cheating.
Jack 41:13 ↗
I've got tricks up my sleeve. I'm going to hope.
Valkyrae 41:20 ↗
That was so cute.
Jack 41:22 ↗
Okay. No pressure. Again, just literally competing with everybody.
Valkyrae 41:29 ↗
Jack.
Jack 41:29 ↗
Only millions of people.
Valkyrae 41:30 ↗
Jack... Okay. I'm going to be yapping your ear off when you do it.
Jack 41:36 ↗
I think it's really good.
Valkyrae 41:37 ↗
That's crazy.
Jack 41:38 ↗
Now, it's my turn, everybody! Let's go. Let me show you how it's done. Show you how it's done. Infinite Scaler, live at Google I/O! Starts now.
Valkyrae 41:52 ↗
It's not too late to join in. We're going to look at the high scores right after this, or maybe after a couple of rounds, because who knows how far Jack is going to get.
Jack 42:03 ↗
Good. Rocket ship already. I'm locked in. I'm locked in.
Valkyrae 42:08 ↗
If you're at home on your PC, scan the QR code. Double rockets?
Jack 42:13 ↗
Yep, I rigged it.
Valkyrae 42:15 ↗
That's crazy. Really?
Jack 42:20 ↗
Let's see how far you can get.
Valkyrae 42:25 ↗
The bears.
Jack 42:26 ↗
Oh, my gosh.
Valkyrae 42:27 ↗
What is going on? All the rockets, this is so rigged. This is not fair right now. Candy canes.
Jack 42:39 ↗
I'm going for 100.
Valkyrae 42:40 ↗
Who did you actually pay?
Jack 42:42 ↗
Don't worry about it. That was close. The bears and the river.
Valkyrae 42:47 ↗
Hot-air balloons.
Jack 42:48 ↗
I like watching you play, because I can actually look at the rooms.
Valkyrae 42:53 ↗
There's another.
Jack 42:54 ↗
There we go. More food, please.
Valkyrae 42:59 ↗
Puppies. Washing machines with a ship in it. You're at 70.
Jack 43:08 ↗
What did you get to? Six? I'm about to pass that right now. I'm about to pass that right now.
Valkyrae 43:13 ↗
You have to try to get 100.
Jack 43:14 ↗
I will. Don't worry. If you're playing at home when you look at the leaderboard, it's for you all at home. I won't be on that. I've had a lot of practice... So I may or may not have been here in this seat for two hours yesterday playing.
Valkyrae 43:33 ↗
We did get to practice.
Jack 43:36 ↗
This is actually getting nuts now.
Valkyrae 43:39 ↗
You're already almost at 100.
Jack 43:41 ↗
I wonder which country actually will wind up getting the top.
Valkyrae 43:45 ↗
Congratulations. You did it.
Jack 43:49 ↗
Jack... It's getting dark.
Valkyrae 43:56 ↗
Yes you better hurry up.
Jack 43:57 ↗
It's fine. Everything's fine. A ship in a bottle?
Valkyrae 44:01 ↗
Yeah. Pigeons.
Jack 44:03 ↗
Well, Rae.
Valkyrae 44:06 ↗
Look at the bee!
Jack 44:10 ↗
I think that might be my favorite. The bunnies with the boba. Now, I want boba. You're at 125, Jack. That cheeseburger has lettuce and tomatoes.
Valkyrae 44:24 ↗
Can we get more animals with clothes on?
Jack 44:28 ↗
No burger should have -- let's just cancel the keynote, and I'll keep playing.
Valkyrae 44:34 ↗
I'm sure.
Jack 44:35 ↗
I think that's what everyone here wants. They would love that.
Valkyrae 44:39 ↗
You're at 130.
Jack 44:41 ↗
I wish you won first. This is crazy.
Valkyrae 44:46 ↗
Okay.
Jack 44:47 ↗
Okay. 142!
Valkyrae 44:48 ↗
That was pretty good.
Jack 44:50 ↗
Thank you.
Valkyrae 44:50 ↗
That was pretty good. Look at these numbers. It's over 157 countries.
Jack 44:59 ↗
This is in the last 10 minutes.
Valkyrae 45:02 ↗
14,000 people! That's wild. That's actually a lot of people. This just happened.
Jack 45:09 ↗
1818 levels.
Valkyrae 45:10 ↗
Let's check out the top scores. Brawny icy moss with 248. We suck.
Jack 45:18 ↗
How did they even have that much time?
Valkyrae 45:21 ↗
I don't know. That's actually nuts.
Jack 45:26 ↗
Top country, United States. Shout-out India, 9,567 levels scaled, okay.
Valkyrae 45:34 ↗
33,000 points, that's crazy. Then we've got Germany, Brazil, France, Mexico, Canada, Poland, Spain. Where's the Philippines?
Jack 45:42 ↗
Don't worry. Next one. We'll take a look at some of the levels that people have made.
Valkyrae 45:48 ↗
I'm very excited for this. Let's see what you guys have made. Okay. We've got a duck with a sweater fishing, by poppy neon gravy.
Jack 45:59 ↗
Very cool.
Valkyrae 46:02 ↗
Cute. Are those like --
Jack 46:04 ↗
A coral reef. Little anemones with eyeballs. You've got to get rid of the lettuce and tomato.
Valkyrae 46:15 ↗
So you're a cheese and meat only kind of guy. This is by smiley science.
Now, I'm hungry.
Jack 46:26 ↗
That makes sense.
Valkyrae 46:27 ↗
We saw this one in the levels.
Jack 46:28 ↗
That's a really cool one.
Valkyrae 46:30 ↗
Ship in a bottle with little people around it. A disco snail.
Jack 46:40 ↗
How do you even think of that? Snail where the shell is a disco ball. Giant rock hand, asteroid hand by plushy hiccup. I feel like we've got to give you another chance, though.
Valkyrae 46:53 ↗
Me?
Jack 46:53 ↗
Yeah. You've got to get 100 plus.
Valkyrae 46:55 ↗
Okay. I can hit 100. People already hit 250...
Jack 47:00 ↗
Yeah. Maybe we can redeem ourselves. Look at this crowd here, that's awesome. This is crazy. Some of you all out there in the sun, make sure you put on some sunscreen. This crowd is going all the way back now.
Valkyrae 47:12 ↗
It's going to get hot today.
Jack 47:14 ↗
No pressure. Some of the most important people in the world in the room, but no pressure.
Valkyrae 47:22 ↗
No pressure. I'm scaling.
Jack 47:25 ↗
You all at home can join up and play right now. I'm going to try to challenge you to get that leaderboard. You have to get 220, I think. The Phoenix is cool. A bunch of crystals.
Valkyrae 47:38 ↗
I passed the rocket. I passed the rocket. I didn't need it.
Jack 47:44 ↗
What are you doing?
Valkyrae 47:46 ↗
I'm freaking out, Jack. Okay.
Jack 47:48 ↗
Uh-oh.
Valkyrae 47:49 ↗
Okay, okay. Stay calm. This is spaghetti. Rocket. Big. Okay.
Jack 47:58 ↗
Now, you've got it. Someone in the crowd right now is watching and probably already at like 500, and they might play for the whole show.
Valkyrae 48:06 ↗
I'm kind of curious what the top score is now.
Jack 48:12 ↗
You better make a mistake, people are going to be on their phones while they're doing it.
