Key Quotes (5)

“We have more than 330 million users on chain without counting the several tens of millions of users that are using USDT only on centralized exchanges, so the 400 million users global is quite conservative. On a quarterly basis, there are more than 30 million new on-chain wallets created for USDT.”

▶ 2:45 POLICY

“Tether has more than 100 billion dollars in US treasuries, has 82,000 Bitcoin, and has more than 48 tons of gold. This is the hedge against the apocalypse, giving Tether the ability to keep providing stability for hundreds of millions of people that live in emerging markets and developing countries.”

▶ 4:16 POLICY

“AI is already very much politicized and has been built and delivered through centralized entities like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. We wanted to ensure that we had an independent AI infrastructure provider not affiliated with these companies to provide a fair entry point for companies that want to develop new AI tools without supporting a specific political party or agenda.”

▶ 23:01 CONTROVERSIAL POLICY

“We are building a peer-to-peer marketplace for AI models so that freedom of speech will be preserved. You will be able to access any sort of model with any sort of political bias or non-political bias, and no one should stop you from using it because in the end, it's your decision, your life, and your freedom.”

▶ 24:51 CONTROVERSIAL POLICY

“We built a technology that allows you with the same code to build any AI app that can run on a $30 smartphone, a flagship smartphone, your laptop, or a mainframe with tens or hundreds of GPUs. This technology will be open source early next year, empowering developers to build user experiences that preserve human freedom and privacy.”

About Paolo Ardoino

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether and CTO of Bitfinex, has recently discussed the company's expansion beyond stablecoins into areas such as tokenized securities, local artificial intelligence, and investments in gold, Bitcoin, and farmland. In an October 2026 Reddit AMA, he argued that AI should be developed with a "local first" approach, stating that it would be problematic for a few companies to control intelligence for all of humanity, and noted that even inexpensive smartphones can run smaller AI models today. He also described Tether's QVAC project as building a peer-to-peer, encrypted communication stack. In interviews and podcasts from August and September 2026, Ardoino addressed Bitfinex Securities' fifth anniversary, saying the goal is to reduce capital-raising costs for small and medium-sized enterprises by 80% through tokenization. He also commented on global financial shifts, suggesting that decentralized ownership of U.S. Treasuries via stablecoin holders could be preferable to concentration in the hands of a single nation. Ardoino characterized Tether as a "stable company" that invests in scarce assets to prepare for worst-case scenarios, and stated its mission is to serve people excluded from traditional financial and AI services.
