Pastor Mike Jr. | Stop Existing — Start Living God’s Purpose for Your Life

📅 May 12, 2026 The Believer’s Hub 51 MIN 221 VIEWS 58 SEGMENTS · 2 SPEAKERS
Too many people are alive… but not truly living. Busy, exhausted, distracted — yet still empty inside. In this transformational message, Pastor Mike Jr. challenges believers to stop settling for survival mode and step into the purpose God designed before they were even born. Your pain had a purpose. Your struggle had a purpose. Even the doors that closed were part of God’s direction for your future. This sermon will awaken your faith, reignite your passion, and remind you that you were not created to blend in with the crowd — you were called to impact lives, break cycles, and walk boldly in...

What Mike Maples said

Written from the verified transcript and checked against it. Every figure links to the moment it was said.

Pastor Mike Jr. teaches that purpose is why one is here, while calling is what one does while here, and that God uses one's story, not just skills. He outlines five purposes: planned for God's pleasure (offer real worship), formed for God's family (enjoy real fellowship), created to become like Christ (learn real discipleship), shaped for serving God (practice real ministry), and made for a mission (live out real evangelism). He emphasizes loving God with all heart, soul, and mind, and warns against trap doors from the devil. He shares personal testimony of bankruptcy, foreclosure, depression, and a suicide attempt, arguing these stories set people apart. He stresses the need for godly fellowship, discipleship, and serving others, quoting Martin Luther that God does not need our good works but our neighbor does. He concludes by urging listeners to go back and deliver others, as Harriet Tubman did.

Key takeaways

  1. Purpose is why you're here; calling is what you do while here, and God uses your story, not just your skill.
  2. Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind; every thought should be funneled through love for God.
  3. You were created by God on purpose for a purpose; you are not an accident or a mistake.
  4. Part-time Christians can't defeat full-time devils; you were saved to save and called to full-time Christian service.

And I told you guys that I was supposed to be in this big vision series right now, right? Vision, man. I'm supposed to be talking about vision. Here's what God is calling us to do. Motivating everybody. We going to get excited. We going to go to Central Park. We going to raise some money. And Holy Spirit said, "Mike, they will never get excited about your vision if they don't know their vision." For years, people have been dragging you into your purpose. And I'm ready for you to walk into your destiny.
Unknown 0:25 ↗
Amen.
Mike Jr. 0:26 ↗
And I'm excited about that. So week one, I told you, turn to the Bible. The Bible has the answers to everything you need. Number two, I told you pray for direction. Now, I'mma speak this and it's a testimony even with the doors that God is opening for Sarah, the doors that God is opening for Julian, the doors that God is opening for Nicole. I can go down the list from the doors God is opening. I got members closing on their first homes. We got all this great stuff happening. And the reason I want you praying for direction is because every door that is presented to you ain't your door.
Unknown 0:57 ↗
Amen.
Mike Jr. 0:59 ↗
Every door ain't your door. Every door isn't your door. The devil will put a door in front of you that looks like a blessing. Put this in your notes. We discovered this yesterday. But it's trap doors.
Unknown 1:10 ↗
Preach PM day. Trap doors. Trap doors.
Mike Jr. 1:13 ↗
The devil will put the child locks on it, too. Soon as you walk in, it will lock you in that room and you'll spend the rest of this year trying to figure out what's next in your life. So, I want you preparing about what door God has for you. I mean, there's some of you right now, and I don't know who it is, probably three of y'all praying about moving. Where you at praying about moving right there? We got to pray. What's the next move? What city? What state? What is God doing next? How does it feel? What's the flow? We're going to be praying about that because every door, everything that glitter ain't gold. I want to be, I'm going to see if I can say this right. I just don't want to win. I want to win God's way. Amen. Cuz I know if I win God's way, he'll keep me in the place that he has me. So, we're going to talk about that. But then we also talked about following the will of God. What's the will of God for your life? It's super simple. The will of God for my life is to do what pleases him. That's so simple. The will of God for my life is to do what pleases him. I asked you, I gave you some homework. I'm pretty sure some of y'all didn't do your homework. I asked you to define yourself in one word or just one phrase. Who remembered that? Anybody? Everybody get a F. Everybody. I want to see all y'all after class today. All right. So, hear me when I say this cuz I told you last year, last week, I could define myself in one word. Fisherman. Who remembers that now? Fisherman. One of my spiritual daughters said, "Pastor, I'm a healer." One said I'm a peacemaker. You know, one of my guys said defender. I kind of find myself always defending. So, what am I realizing, Pastor Mike? Find the will of God for your life. And it's super simple. The will of God for your life is to please him. So now I want to say this from the bottom of my heart. Today, last week we talked about the promises of God. Today we're talking about living a purpose-driven life. Living a purpose-driven life. Four things. That's my heart's desire from each and every one of you. Number one, know your purpose. Number two, walk in purpose. Number three, accept purpose. Number four, fulfill purpose. I'm going to say it again. Number one, know your purpose. Number two, accept your purpose. Number three, walk in purpose. Number four, fulfill your purpose. All right. After today, nobody will ever again say out of your mouth, "I don't know my purpose." I want to make that perfectly clear. If you walk up to me after today and say, "Pastor Mike, I need you to pray because I don't know my purpose." I'm going to look back at you and say, "Go listen to this message." Because I am guaranteeing by the time you leave here today, you're going to know your purpose. The problem you have right now isn't you don't know your purpose. You're going to be wrestling with your call. All right? Put this in your notes. Purpose is why I'm here. Calling is what do I do while I'm here? Did you catch that? Purpose is why I'm here. Calling is what do I do while I'm here? And I told you on last week, purpose is not just about God using your skill. It's about God using your story.
Unknown 4:04 ↗
That's right.
Mike Jr. 4:05 ↗
That's rich to me. It's not just about God using your skill. It's about God using your story. Everybody in this room got a skill. No, God wants your story. I'm gonna say this and only three of y'all gonna receive it. You got such a unique story that if I handed you this mic and you started testifying to people on your row, people would get set free, healed and delivered because of your story. Did you catch what I just said right there? It's your story that the devil wants to silence. That's why he makes you think don't nobody care about you. But God gave us the code to the kingdom. He said you are freed by the blood of the lamb and by the testimony. What is a testimony PMJ? The testimony is the story about the test. Preach, PMJ. It's your story. I'm preaching to three of y'all already that truth be told. It ain't just what you do. It's what all you went through to get to. Am I preaching to anybody? That's why you got to be careful because the devil is after your story, man. I'm telling you, I ain't playing no games with the devil. That's why I don't mind saying, "Yeah, I filed bankruptcy twice, man. Me and my wife foreclosed on our home." I don't mind saying her car was repossessed. I don't mind saying I battled with depression. I don't mind saying one night I took a pill cuz I just didn't want to live no more. I was depressed and frustrated. I don't mind saying I was probably the worst student ever in school. Got kicked out. I almost got kicked out two or three times. Every chance I get to tell my story. I'mma tell my story. You want to know why? Cuz it's going to be two people sitting there like but then it's going to be one person like did you miss what I just said? Because I want you to know if God can do it for me, he can do it for you, too. And you better stop letting people make you ashamed of what God brought you out of. You better learn how to thank God because it could have went the other way. I am a living testimony that if God has to reach way down, HE WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO pick you up. Somebody shout, "I got a story." And your story is so critical to your purpose. Your story is so critical to your purpose. But hear me when I say this. What do I want you to realize? Your story is what sets you apart. It's your story that sets you apart. I mean this man, I was tripping. I was tripping because James and I are up. We're fighting now in all these categories to try to be nominated for Stellar Awards. That's like the Black Gospel Grammys, right? So, literally, I think he's in about nine or 10 categories so far on the first ballot. I'm in about nine on the first ballot. And I was talking to people and here's a story. I'm going to show you what the story is cuz I can't wait because I'm already prophesying I'mma win the new gospel artist of the year. Okay, let's just prophesy that. Okay, I'mma prophesy that. Okay, I'mma claim that right now. And I can't wait. I can't wait when I get that award. I'm going to be able to stand there and say to a new artist out there who's watching this award show right now. Last year when this award show came on, Jabari Johnson won it. He's a gospel artist. He plays at TD Jakes. I went in his inbox that night, inboxed him and said, "Hey, can you send me your cash app?" He inboxed me back and said, "For what?" I said, "I'm believing God to be where you are this time next year." I said I cash apped him about $250. Holy Spirit says sow something into his life because if you want it, you got to sow into it. And see, it's the story. So it ain't just the song, it's the story. And the reason the devil has been trying to take you out because he's been trying to silence your story. And what I'm trying to get you to realize is when you live a purpose-driven life, I want you to understand you were created by God on purpose for a purpose. Please put that in your notes. You were created by God on purpose for a purpose. Created by God on purpose for a purpose. Okay, we're going to go real slow. Real slow. I need you to pull your phone out. Pull your notes out. I'm going to give you the five reasons why you're here. I'm going to give you your purpose right now. And I'm going to come back and unpack all of it. I'm going to give you all five.
