“For sure you're going to see disruption in with AI in certain job functions. I don't see how that's not possible. And I don't see how anybody can look people in the eye and say that's not possible.”

About Dan Schulman

Board member · Independent

Dan Schulman, who became CEO of Verizon in October 2025 after coming out of retirement, has discussed the company's strategic reset and his views on artificial intelligence. Schulman stated that Verizon had lost market share for five consecutive years and described the company as having moved from a defensive posture to one "playing to win." He announced a restructuring that included eliminating 13,000 jobs, saying the cuts were necessary to generate $5 billion in cost savings, the majority of which would be reinvested into customer service infrastructure. Schulman said he chose to announce the layoffs all at once rather than "bleed it out." Schulman has repeatedly predicted that artificial general intelligence (AGI) will arrive within two to four years, calling it a "transformative technology." He said AI will improve productivity and customer satisfaction, and noted that Verizon has been experimenting with AI agents that replace some customer service representatives, achieving higher customer satisfaction rates. Schulman acknowledged that AI will disrupt certain job functions and said that reskilling workers is an obligation of CEOs and the public sector. He also discussed the digitization of financial infrastructure, stating that blockchain technologies can radically reduce transaction costs and increase financial inclusion.
