About Craig Federighi

SVP Software Engineering · Apple

At Apple’s WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8, Craig Federighi introduced Siri AI, a major update to the company’s voice assistant powered by Apple Intelligence. He stated that “AI is incredibly powerful technology with the potential to shape society in profound ways” but criticized some companies for “pursuing AI, for the sake of AI, without clear regard for the people” it is meant to serve. Federighi said Apple’s approach centers AI “around you and your needs,” integrating it into everyday products and designing it “with privacy at every step.” He added that while many AI providers “talk about privacy,” most retain personal interactions by default, whereas Apple believes “privacy in AI is non-negotiable.” Federighi also announced that Siri AI would not be initially available in the European Union on iOS and iPadOS, stating the company is “working hard to find a path forward that preserves our users’ privacy and security.” He noted that in China, the features would not be available while Apple works “through regulatory requirements.” The update includes customizable Siri voices, improved dictation accuracy, and more conversational capabilities, extending to CarPlay and AirPods.
