Christopher Young, Microsoft’s executive vice president of business development, strategy, and ventures, has been discussing the evolution of AI from generating responses to performing tasks on behalf of users, describing a shift toward “agentic” AI and co-pilots that can carry out work. In a January 2025 appearance, he said AI will “infuse our lives in almost everywhere we use technology” and emphasized the need for responsible AI principles, government engagement, and regulation. He also noted that Microsoft’s strategy involves long-term thinking about industry verticals and foundational investments, including in autonomous systems and nuclear energy as a clean source for data centers. Young has also highlighted Microsoft’s investments in embodied AI, such as self-driving vehicles and humanoid robotics, and the company’s partnership with OpenAI. In a 2024 interview, he said the challenge for Microsoft is to “move fast enough” and “stay agile” amid rapid AI change. He has called for organizations to adopt AI responsibly, stating that “everything that we do with models for good can be flipped and turned to be used by malicious actors.” Young has also discussed the importance of integrating language understanding with physical control in autonomous vehicles, describing a demonstration of an AI-driven car navigating central London without HD maps.
