Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Dior Men, presented the Spring/Summer 2027 collection in Paris during a heatwave. He described the show as 'Dior after hours,' inspired by house party music from Fred Again, and explored themes of old versus new, aristocracy, and lived-in clothing. Anderson highlighted archive-derived trompe-l'oeil embroideries, the new 'Bobby' suit named after Monsieur Dior's dog, and hand-cobbled, distressed boots. He discussed the patina of old buildings and the idea of recreating English chairs in a French context. The collection featured references to Jeff Buckley, 18th-century dandies, and aristocratic brooches, which he noted were his first fashion creations. Anderson emphasized the conflict between young and old, and the idea of clothing as a lived experience, concluding he was 'very happy' with the show.

Key takeaways

  1. The SS27 collection is themed 'Dior after hours,' inspired by Fred Again's house party music and the idea of partying until 2 p.m.
  2. The new 'Bobby' suit is named after Monsieur Dior's dog and features a low break, muslin fabric, and printed pied-de-poule.
  3. Anderson used archive trompe-l'oeil swatches for blouses, some never realized as dresses, to explore unresolved designs.

Can we take a selfie? Of course, I'm sweaty but let's do it. We are too! It's so sweaty. Right, let's do it!

Dior! Dior Menswear by Jonathan Anderson! This is spring summer 2027! Hello, I'm Loïc Prigent. Subscribe to the channel to see everything about fashion. Jonathan Anderson himself explains his point of view. Where are we? We're in Paris. It's like 40 degrees! There's a heat wave, but we're in a hotel particulier and a garden. The museum Nissim de Camondo. Everything is carefully curated. Even small portraits by the 36-year-old artist, Giangicomo Rossetti, who already collaborated with Jonathan Anderson and Dior. The first row is all the industry menswear editors in chief! And a few stars. Jimin! Drew Starkey! James Marsden! Lakeith Stanfield! Louis Garrel! Little Simz! Paul Kircher! From CORTIS, Keonho, Seonghyeon and Juhoon! Yung Lean! Guitarricadelafuente! Is it a hot event for you?
Guest 1:15 ↗
It's a hot event for me. This is like Seville in August. In the worst way. It's crazy!
Loïc Prigent 1:20 ↗
Did you swim in the canal?
Guest 1:22 ↗
I didn't have time. I wanted to be alive today.
Loïc Prigent 1:25 ↗
How excited are you for this one?
Guest 1:27 ↗
Really excited. It's very early in the morning.
Loïc Prigent 1:31 ↗
Deng Wei! Robert Aramayo! Arón Piper! Leo Reich! Corentin Fila and Panayotis Pascot! Pharrell Williams with his spouse. I'm seated next to the great funniest man on earth, Jake Shane! Rapper Yung Lean is not accustomed to opening fans. Backstage is about to explode! With pressure. Last touch-ups... and go. Look one, Orlando Spence opens the show by plugging his phone so we can enjoy his music. The vibe is a job party.
Jonathan Anderson 2:30 ↗
I'm a super fan of Fred Again, and I've always wanted to work with him. And I wanted him to do something which was the ultimate house party music at 2 a.m. in the morning, then at 2 p.m. the next day. This idea of that moment when you go out and then you're still going until 2 p.m. It's like Dior after hours in a way? Dior after hours. It's definitely after hours.
Loïc Prigent 2:54 ↗
George Collingwood, Jack Paulsen. The first three models wear a new suit called 'Bobby', a new shape. The break of the jacket is quite low. They're all muslin. The pied-de-poule of the jacket is printed, not woven! The look three shirt has a trompe-l'oeil hand embroidery of tube beads. The embroideries all come from the archive of Dior.
Jonathan Anderson 3:16 ↗
They were swatches, these trompe-l'oeil swatches that we've done. We were going through the archive and we had found all these ones that were, some were realized into dresses, some were not. And I just like the idea of doing these blouses with this sort of scarf that was kind of embroidered in. Unseen Dior. Unseen Dior. He did versions of it, but he never did them as complete as that. He took fragments of them, but they were the initial, what was delivered to him from the embroidery company. And I like this idea of something which was unresolved. So they're onto these sort of pussy bow blouse shirts, or they're like little tangs. I have always loved, since I've been at Dior, that when you look at him, he was obsessed by the 18th century. And how wrong and right that can be is sort of interesting today. Ari Seymour's scarf is embroidered by Lesage on his silk vest. This one is a motif from a 1971 Dior haute couture collection by Marc Bohan. We are Diorclubbing.
Loïc Prigent 4:23 ↗
Asa Kamlo Poanka and Oladipo Ezekiel are wearing cotton pajamas. Pajama party! It's not your classic pajama fabric, but something less fluid, more suited for the city. It has a shearling collar. It's a kind of workwear pajama hybrid. Samuel is a grungy boy with a distressed knit and patiné, dirty lux denim trousers. The muse of the collection, the face on the mood board, is a musician, Jeff Buckley. Aljan Jandarbekov got the silver five-pocket jeans with iridescent rainbow sequins. He's catching all the lights in the gardens in the club. It's not a garment, it's a stroboscope. All the jeans are embroidered, all the sequins like a disco ball. And Oscar Darden has a golden version.
Jonathan Anderson 5:10 ↗
I like this idea that it would be something that you could see like a guy with no top on at a rave. But at the same time, you have this sort of Eton kid with a jacket over the top. It could be his dad's. I like this idea that it's like playing with a character. This is his look and this is what he finds in the attic.
Loïc Prigent 5:36 ↗
Andrea Villoresi with a tailored jacket in denim, broken, repaired, distressed, washed, and start again.
Jonathan Anderson 5:43 ↗
It was like this idea of walking through rooms. I like this idea it's undone. Everything's gone. And I always love the kind of patina of an old building. You can never really recreate it. You can't recreate it. I've always loved this museum. I bought this chair for my house, which is from an antique dealer, but it's from a house in Norfolk in England. It's got initials in it. And I like this idea of an English chair in a French context. English furniture is inspired by French furniture. And then I was like, okay, let's recreate them.
