Catherine Hughes, founder and chairperson of Urban One, discussed receiving the key to Washington, D.C. from Mayor Muriel Bowser. She said the key is the highest honor a city can give and that Bowser, who served two terms on the city council and three as mayor, gave out only six keys total, with Hughes being the only woman. Hughes said the key belongs to all Urban One employees, not just her, and announced a Friday afternoon social a week from the recording where employees can take pictures with the key. She described her career as following God's vision rather than a master plan, starting with Radio One in D.C., expanding to Baltimore, then TV One, I One digital, and syndication through Tom Joyner. She called Urban One the nation's largest Black-owned media company started by a Black woman and mentioned mentors Dr. Dorothy Height and Dr. C. Delores Tucker.
