Narendra Modi hosted the 137th episode of Mann Ki Baat, opening by spotlighting Krishna Seshadri of Mumbai, who built bharatrajya.com, a history website allowing users to see which rulers governed parts of India in any given year. Modi praised Seshadri's use of technology, his openness to corrections on the site, and his focus on underrated empires like the Cholas, Pallavas, Karkota dynasty, and Ahoms. Modi then urged youth participation in the 'Drug-Free Youth for a Developed India' campaign, asking for slogans, songs, and plays. He highlighted August events and the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, noting over 80 million Tiranga selfies. Modi discussed PM SVANidhi, saying around 3.5 million women benefit, and gave examples like Babita Sharma and TS Ningamma. He praised cleanliness efforts in Patwai village and the Amarnath Yatra, Veswalu Puro's flower farming, Maithili Bhue's forest conservation, and Mission ShaktiSat, which involves 12,000 female students. He also mentioned avocado farming examples and honored actor Uttam Kumar on his centenary, encouraging 'Vocal for Local.'
Key takeaways
Around 3.5 million women are beneficiaries of the PM SVANidhi scheme, making up nearly 46% of its beneficiaries.
Over 80 million Tiranga selfies were uploaded during the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
Over 400 metric tons of waste was collected during the Shri Amarnath Yatra, with 16,000 pilgrims pledging cleanliness.
Mission ShaktiSat has enrolled 12,000 female students from 108 countries, with phase two launched on National Space Day.
Krishna Seshadri's website bharatrajya.com lets users find which rulers controlled regions in any year.
My dear countrymen, greetings! I once again welcome all of you to this new episode of Mann Ki Baat. You all know that this is a platform where we bring new initiatives to the forefront and discuss the innovative ideas of our countrymen. Among these, there are so many ideas behind which people have invested the tireless energy of their lives. Friends, some time ago someone wrote on social media: "On the auspicious occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi, I am extremely pleased to share that I am starting my effort to make history interesting." He further explained that the idea is very simple. You go to this website and choose any year; here you will easily find out which part of India was ruled by whom at that time.
I also found this quite interesting. I thought of learning more about it. I found out that this work has been done by Mr. Krishna Seshadri, who lives in Mumbai. The interesting thing is that Krishna has also kept the website name very simple: www.bharatrajya.com. The initiative he has undertaken should certainly reach all of you as well. Therefore, I thought, why not speak directly with Krishna? Friends, Krishna is joining us over the phone. Krishna, hello!
Brother, I learned that you are neither from the tech world nor are you a history teacher. Still, by using technology, you built a website on history. So I am very curious, how did all this happen?
Thank you, sir. Speaking with you is a great privilege for me. Sir, if I share a little about myself, I was an engineer, then I did an MBA, and then I went into the marketing field. But even while doing all this, I had a deep interest in history since childhood. So I always wanted to do something on history—how to make it interesting. And I also felt that the way we teach history, we can bring a lot of improvement and changes to it, and present history to people as a story.
Sir, if you look at how Indian history is taught in our schools or colleges, it is taught from the perspective of a single empire or kingdom, and those empires get disproportionate attention. Because of this, many of our other great empires—like the Cholas, the Pallavas, the Karkota dynasty in Kashmir, and the Ahoms, who preserved their culture and value system in Assam for at least 600 years—we do not know about them. So I thought of creating a website to introduce these great empires to people as well.
