In the 137th episode of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted citizen initiatives, beginning with Krishna Seshadri's website www.bharat.com, which makes Indian history interactive by allowing users to explore rulers and empires by year. Modi praised Seshadri's openness to corrections and suggestions, which have led to features like provincial-level views and downloadable data cards. He then promoted the 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat' campaign against drug addiction, urging youth to create slogans, songs, and plays. Modi celebrated patriotic events in August, noting over 80 million Tiranga selfies and the 'Surya Par Tiranga' initiative. He highlighted women's empowerment through PM SVANidhi, citing examples like Babita Sharma and TS Ningamma. He also praised cleanliness efforts, including the 'Clean-up Patwai' team and waste management during the Amarnath Yatra. Modi showcased Veishalou Puro's floriculture success, Maithili Bhue's ecotourism work, and the Mission ShaktiSAT initiative involving 12,000 female students. He discussed avocado farming's benefits for farmers and paid tribute to actor Uttam Kumar on his birth centenary, concluding with a call for 'Vocal for Local'.
Key takeaways
Krishna Seshadri's website www.bharat.com lets users explore Indian history by year, with features like provincial-level views and downloadable data cards.
Over 80 million Tiranga selfies were uploaded during the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, and the Tricolor was unfurled across the world via 'Surya Par Tiranga'.
About 46% of PM SVANidhi beneficiaries are women, with nearly 3.5 million women joining the scheme to grow their businesses.
Mission ShaktiSAT is training 12,000 female students from 108 countries in satellite technology, with a satellite to be sent to the Moon's orbit.
During the Amarnath Yatra, over 400 metric tons of waste was collected, and horse and mule dung was converted into biogas to light the Swachh Jyot.
My dear fellow citizens, namaskar! In this new episode of Mann Ki Baat, I welcome all of you once again. As you know, this is a platform where we highlight new efforts and discuss the innovative ideas of our citizens. Among these, there are many ideas behind which people have put the untiring energy of their lives. Friends, a little while ago, someone wrote on social media: 'On the auspicious occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi, I am extremely pleased to share that I am launching my endeavor to make history interesting.' He further explained that the idea is very simple: you visit this website and choose any year, and here you can easily find out who was ruling which part of India at that time.
I also found this very interesting and thought of learning more about it. I found out that this work has been done by Mr. Krishna Seshadri, who lives in Mumbai. Interestingly, Krishna has kept the website's name very simple: www.bharat.com. The information about the efforts he has made must reach you all as well. Therefore, I thought, why not speak directly with Krishna? Friends, Krishna is joining us on the phone. Krishna, namaste!
Brother, I have come to know that you are neither from the tech world nor are you a history teacher. Yet, you used technology to build a website on history. So I am very curious: how did all this happen?
Thank you, sir. Speaking with you is a great privilege for me. Sir, if I tell you a little about myself: I was an engineer, then I did an MBA, and then I went into the marketing field. But while doing all this, since childhood I had a huge interest in history. So I always wanted to do something on history—how to make it interesting. And I also felt that there is a lot of room for improvement in the way we teach history. We can bring a lot of change and convey history to people as a story.
Sir, if you look at Indian history as taught in our schools or colleges, it is taught from the perspective of just one empire or kingdom, and those empires receive disproportionate attention. Because of this, we do not learn about many of our other great empires—such as the Cholas, the Pallavas, the Karkota dynasty in Kashmir, and the Ahoms who preserved their culture and value system in Assam for at least 600 years. So I thought of creating a website that introduces people to these great empires as well.
