Heat. Heat.
In the event that you wake up and find your soul separated from source and manifest into material form, don't panic. Your condition is only temporary. You have been selected for the opportunity of human incarnation. This 3D simulation is designed to break up the monotony of eternity by giving you a fully immersive experience as a distinct ego identity.
Your body will serve as your physical avatar as you navigate a dense and dramatic reality.
There will be many distractions causing you to forget your true nature and origin. You will experience a range of emotions from joy to loneliness to despair. But remember, no matter what trials and traumas you encounter, your soul remains perfectly safe.
At times, you may feel lost or afraid. This is totally normal. If you ever need guidance, simply slow down your busy mind and bring your awareness to the quiet place inside yourself.
On this planet, nothing is permanent. People and things will come and go. You'll fall in love and form sentimental attachments only to lose everything you hold dear.
So cling to nothing too tightly, even yourself. And when it's time to let go, let go with grace, for nothing is owned, only borrowed.
As you walk among the people on the planet, try to be a good guest. Tread lightly. Remember that you are only visiting. Don't make a mess. Listen more than you speak. Give more than you take.
Don't keep your soft heart locked inside a glass cage, protected from wear and tear. You'll never make it out alive, and time passes quickly. So, come back with some battle scars and good stories to tell.
Please welcome Evan Spiegel.

All right, good afternoon everybody. Welcome. I'm so grateful that you've joined us here today and it's going to be a lot of fun and mostly live demos because the goal of the show today is to show you how Specs work and what they do so you're ready to go hands-on right after the show.
So, I will say it's an interesting time to be launching a new computer because things in tech are pretty weird right now.
We're being told that AI will take our jobs, that virtual worlds will replace the real one. Well, no thank you. We do not accept that future. Making people irrelevant is not progress. And computers should make us more important, not less.
So our bet is on you, on your imagination, on your creativity, on what you can build, and on what we can do together. Because technology should add to your life, not cut you out of it. So more than a decade ago, we set out to rebuild the computer from the ground up around what's most important, people. And that gave birth to Specs and our vision for making computing more human.
And we started with how people actually interact with the world. And it's a miracle of evolutionary biology, but it's really quite simple. We look at what's around us, we think about it, and then we act on it. And we do that over and over and over again.
So, we built Specs to support that same interaction. And that's why Specs are glasses. So, they can see what you see. They can understand the world without recording it, just like you.
And Specs bring digital experiences into the world with see-through lenses, so you can keep your head up and your hands free. And you interact naturally using familiar movements with your hands and your voice. And we call this instinctual computing because you don't have to learn anything new. You just use your natural instincts to navigate Specs experiences.
So you can reach out and grab an object or just ask for what you want. And it really is that simple. Because getting things done shouldn't mean choosing what app to use, logging in, then copy-pasting information from one app to another.
So, we built the first ever AI native operating system with intelligence designed around your projects, your preferences, and your interests. And it helps connect the dots across lenses so you can get things done while focusing on what matters to you.
And humanity is inherently social. So we built shared experiences into the foundation of our operating system so that people can naturally and easily use computing together. We can learn from each other, build on each other's ideas, and create things that we never would have made alone. Being together is part of what makes us human. So it needs to be a part of computing, too.
Specs help you do the things you care about in the real world. Learning to shoot a basketball with the ball in your hands. Learning to draw with the outline projected in front of you. And Specs can help, but you're the one taking the shot. You're the one holding the pen. You're building the skill. You're making something.
And for us, winning means people spending more time together doing the things they love, empowered to make a positive impact in the world. Because the future isn't about what computers can do. It's about what you can do. And we're just getting started.
So, back in June, we introduced Specs AR glasses and showed the world what we've been working on for the past 12 years. We got some great feedback, including some pretty funny memes. There's even some new ear merch. Part of me wanted to wear that today. But and people began to really understand that we're building something different. Not a VR headset that shuts you out of the world. A new kind of computer built into a pair of see-through glasses.
But above all, people just wanted to try Specs. So, guess what? Today is the day.
But before we really get going, wanted to let you in on a little secret because Specs aren't just AR glasses. Our team told me that would be way too easy. Specs are part of an intelligence system that lives across your Mac and your iPhone. And we call this Specs Intelligence.
Specs Intelligence provides proactive recommendations based on your real world context. And it connects to the apps and tools that you already use. It learns your goals and priorities, and it helps you focus on what matters most.
So, let me show you what I mean. Most software waits for you. It waits for you to open an app, remember a task, or figure out the right questions to ask. But life doesn't work that way. You're moving between meetings, traveling, or just trying to keep track of work and family. You don't need another inbox or chatbot.
This is Specs Intelligence. It connects across three services: Mac, iPhone, and Specs. On Mac, Specs brings together your everyday apps like email, calendar, and notes to clear out the daily digital noise.
On iPhone, that same intelligence moves with you throughout the day. And on the glasses, it becomes part of your surroundings. If you're traveling for a busy weekend, Specs coordinates your flight details, hotel reservations, and reminders.
Hey, Specs, what's the latest on my trip? Your flight got switched to gate 14. Take your time heading in.
Under the hood, Specs builds a private context layer around your life, your portrait, your key corners, and your long-term goals.
Your portrait is Specs' understanding of you, your people, your work, your patterns, and the things you care about. Corners help Specs organize different parts of your life like work, family, travel, health, and relationships so the right things surface at the right moments. And goals help Specs understand the bigger things you're working toward, not just the task in front of you.
Together, that's what lets Specs help you move with more intention, not just keep up. And when it handles the busy work, like drafting a message or canceling a subscription you've been meaning to cancel, it always asks before taking action. You stay completely in control.
That trust is built on privacy. You decide which apps and devices to connect. So you decide what Specs sees and what it does. You don't need the glasses to get started. You can try Specs Intelligence on Mac and iPhone to experience a clearer, more intentional way to move through your day. So you can spend less time managing information and more time living.
So that's Specs Intelligence and we're so excited to introduce it today because it's a big part of how Specs become more personal, useful, and aware of your context. And with Specs Intelligence, you choose which services to connect and what information it can use. It offers suggestions, but you decide before anything gets sent, shared, or changed. You're in control, and we protect your privacy by design. We can't review your connected personal content, and we don't use it to train or fine-tune AI models.
And starting today, you can join the waitlist for early access on the Specs website and try a preview of Specs Intelligence now in the Specs iOS app.
So, today is going to be mostly demos happening live on Specs with a few short videos in between. We're going to stream my point of view from Specs so you can see what I see in real time up on the big screen. So for everyone watching, our goal is to give you the closest possible experience to actually trying Specs for yourself. Ready to get started?
So, as you can see, I don't have any gadgets on my wrist, just hands. And the most important thing to know about Specs is that the main menu is always right in the palm of your hand. So, there's the time right there, 4:21. Almost a funny joke. We've got the Wi-Fi strength. It looks pretty good. And there's our battery. Hopefully that takes us through most of the show. Here's a shortcut to Specs Intelligence. There's the home menu. We're going to look at that in just a second. And your quick controls. That's where you can adjust the volume, for example, or skip ahead in a song or even turn the tint on and off. And you can access that main menu in either palm. So, whatever is most comfortable for you, that's where you get started.
So, let's open the home menu. And as you can see, when I lift my hand up, a cursor appears and it tracks whatever your hand is hovering over. So, right here, you'll find recommended lenses. These are lenses that are suggested to you based on the time of day or maybe what you're doing or a lens you use frequently. Up here are my lenses. These are lenses that I've pinned or saved for later. We'll check out a few of these today. Down here we've got settings. This is Lens Explorer. Lens Explorer is really important because that's where you can find all of the amazing lenses made by developers. And I recognize this one, one of my favorites.
So, let's start with Snapchat. And when we thought about building Snapchat for Specs, we really wanted to start with your friends because that's what Snapchat is all about. So let's see if we can send a snap to Bobby. All right. Can we bring the house lights up? I want to make sure we get everyone in here. There we go. All right. So, on the count of three, everybody smile. Three, two, ONE.
Looking good here. I love it. All right, let's get this side of the room. Three, two, one. All right, you can see sending a snap is as easy as snapping your fingers. I won't leave you guys out here. Ready? Three, two, one. There we go. Awesome.
You can see the light in the middle of the glasses lights up so folks around you know that you're capturing a snap if they didn't catch you snapping your fingers first. So, let's give Bobby a call and see if he's around. Let's check this out. Hope he picks up.
Oh, hey Bobby. How you doing? Good. How are you? Everyone say hi to Bobby. We're having a ton of fun out here. What are you doing? Oh, AMAZING. Well, come join us when you're done getting ready for the next demo. All right, we'll be there soon. All right, see you later.
So, you can see with Snapchat on Specs, it's easy to stay in touch with your family and your friends, all hands-free. And Specs are fully standalone with no puck or tether, but they also work seamlessly together with your phone, keeping you connected while you stay present in the world around you. So you can take calls or get notifications, listen to music using Bluetooth, and in addition to staying in touch, Specs are amazing for entertainment.
So hey Specs, can you open YouTube and find some videos from creators about Specs? The suspense is killing me. Let's deactivate the assistant. Let's see what we've got. Creators about Specs. All right, let's see. We'll resize this. Close the keyboard for now. Let's see. Try to get that real cinematic feeling.
Oh, Specs AR smart glasses just got a lot more interesting. Let's check it out. No. Or we could watch ourselves live. I don't know. Should we try that? Oh my goodness. Let's see here. I don't know. Why is that not clicking? Should we try again here? Let's just delete this. Oh my goodness. All right. Well, let's start from the top. So, I really want you guys to see this. It's just so cool.
Hey, Specs, open YouTube and find some videos about Specs. Really thinking hard again here. Let's see. Okay, this one looks even better. AR smart glasses are finally here. Goodbye Meta Ray-Ban bands. Let's see. OKAY, that's right. The company behind Snap. All right. Well, let's here. I'll turn it down for you. Okay. It's a little loud and we can play that back. There we go.
So, you can make it full screen, move around. That allows you to multitask. If you're working on a recipe or just doing the dishes, you can watch your favorite show. One of the things I really like is you can tint Specs for a more immersive content watching experience. So, you can watch in just a couple seconds. Specs tint. You get that really cinematic feeling on the big screen.
So, another thing that we thought a lot about is shopping. And we thought that there was a real opportunity for Specs to solve a problem. You know what? I'm going to turn the tint off here so you can all see my eyes. There we go. Okay. We thought there was a real opportunity to change the way that people shop because if you're shopping online and you're looking at a bunch of little photos, sometimes the thing that you get in the mail doesn't quite match what you saw online. And so Specs can solve that problem by showing you what the product looks like in 3D in your space. So we partnered with Shopify and we brought their global catalog to Specs. Let me show you what that's like.
So, my morning always starts with a really strong cup of coffee. So, let's look for an espresso machine. There we go. I think that one is more my color. So, let's see if we can place it over here. Have a look around. You can just open the website and buy from there. But I know we've got a bit of a wellness crowd here in LA. So, let's look for a new sauna. Okay, this one looks pretty good. Whoa. Okay. All right. That is Can you guys see that? All right. I'll spin it around for you. Wow. Should we take a look inside? I don't know. What do you think? Here we go. It's getting a little hot in there.
So, that's a little taste of what it's like to chat with your friends or watch content or shop on Specs. And we'll get back to the demos in just a minute. But let's talk about Specs at work because that's something that I'm super excited about.
In the 1980s, computers started transforming the way that we work. And with things like word processing and spreadsheets, there was this huge leap in desktop productivity. But the majority of jobs don't happen at a desk. They happen out in the field or on the shop floor or even inside a factory. And with Specs, we can bring computing to those moments so people can keep their hands free and their eyes up. And that's where Specs can really help people get things done.
So let's take a look at some of the enterprise partners that we're already working with. So with Salesforce, a field technician can arrive to repair what's broken. They can identify what they're looking at, ask Agentforce to create a new case, surface the right information in the moment, and update the workflow, all while keeping their hands and their eyes on the task.
With AWS, a retail associate can ask Amazon Q about a product, see if it's available, where it's located, how sales are tracking compared to other products, all right in their field of view.
And we're also working with NVIDIA to bring agents built on NVIDIA's open-source XR AI stack to Specs, allowing them to understand your surroundings, access company data, and guide you in real time. And we're working with several enterprise partners who use NVIDIA's technology on Specs to build new ways to get things done with AI.
Tandem by Trifork connects on-site technicians with remote experts and AI agents anywhere in the world. So experts can see what the technician is seeing, help identify components, and add visual annotations directly into the technician's field of view to guide the work in real time.
And Hololight turns Specs into a spatial workstation using video streaming to give employees access to the tools, documents, and 3D models they need wherever they are.
And for enterprise, we know that trust and control are especially important. So, we're building out mobile device management, security controls, and ways to deploy and manage Specs across teams with the world's most trusted providers, bringing peace of mind to IT departments. And this is just the beginning of our enterprise efforts. So, let's hear from a few of our partners.
If you take the interaction of AI and the conversational approach to computing and combine that with a device that really kind of gets out of the way, this is really the future of technology. Hololight Workspace is such a natural fit for Specs. I'm excited for enterprise clients to see just the amount of data and the quality of data that they can put in front of users. Trifork Tandem on Specs really changes the experience for a remote expert. You're not encumbered by a keyboard. You're not encumbered by a mouse. It just makes you more effective and more impactful at the work you're doing. NVIDIA XR AI works with Specs to make it really easy for developers who want to spin up an intelligent AI agent because it really accelerates their development and stops them from having to start from day zero. The idea is combining the power of Specs with the power of a backend like Salesforce 360. You open up every agent you've built on the Salesforce platform and the technician instantly becomes the smartest person in the room.
So if you're interested in learning more about how your business can use Specs, visit specs.com/enterprise. But life's not just about work. That is, unless you're on the Specs team. But after a long day, you might want to do something for yourself or even learn something new. And with Specs, new ideas can come to life right in the world around you, making practicing and eventually mastering hobbies even easier.
So, let me show you a few of my favorite examples. Together with the NBA and the WNBA, we built an experience that brings the energy of the game into every practice. Through interactive training, Specs can help you get better at basketball. And who knows, maybe one day you'll even be able to give Jimmy Butler a run for his money.
But it's not just basketball. Specs bring coaching right into the world to help you work on your golf swing or sharpen your soccer skills. Beyond sports, Specs can also help you learn other new things. For example, our kids have gotten really into drawing, and our 15-year-old Flynn is super talented. He even drew our mascot, Spexy.
So, I've been using Specs to try to learn along with him. Let me show you. All right. So, getting started drawing on Specs is really easy. You just place your hand flat on the sheet of paper. I'm going to rotate this around a little bit here to line it up. Let's do that. Looks pretty good. And there's Spexy. Nothing like learning a new skill in front of a live audience. Let's see how we go here. I think the music's definitely helping.
So, you may be wondering why we chose an alien as our mascot. And that's because during the process of creating Specs, we imagined that aliens were staring down at Earth and wondering why people were walking around with these little glowing rectangles all day long. And they were plugging them in to feed them electricity and getting different colored outfits for them. The aliens began to wonder who was really in charge. So they sent Specs to help us all or at least help me learn how to draw. So I'm going to call this Hello World.
Well, it's not my best. Certainly not my worst, but one lucky winner is going to go home with their very own Spexy illustration.
So, as you can see, Specs make learning a ton of fun. And your favorite subjects from art to science can just pop off of the page. So, let's try one of my favorites, outer space. Always been fascinated by the Apollo 11 mission. And in 1969, it carried a group of brave astronauts from Earth to the moon. And it remains one of the landmark achievements in human history. So with Specs, you can stand inside that story and follow the Saturn V rocket through each stage of its ascent.
All right, let's find a good spot for it. Can everybody see mission control? All right, we'll start with the ascent. Okay, we look good for launch. Ready? Three, two, one. Liftoff. We have a liftoff. 32 minutes past the hour. Lift off. Looks like the second stage is starting to burn. There's the launch escape vehicle separating. We got confirm and the third stage. So after about 12 minutes, the Saturn V started orbiting the Earth. It's pretty cool.
So, seeing each stage in context makes it easier to understand how the mission actually worked and it makes history feel less like something you study and more like something that you can actually experience. So once we've reached the stars, we can learn about the galaxy with the star map. It's a little hard to see the constellations from inside this auditorium. But if we look up, we can explore. Let's see any Libras in the house? All right. Very balanced. Nice. What about Scorpio? All right, let's see what else we have here. Oh, Leo. There we go. And there's Virgo. I think it's Virgo season. So, okay. Back to Earth here.
So, Specs can be really helpful when you're exploring a new place or even a familiar one. And with TripAdvisor, Specs can help you discover what's nearby. Whether you're exploring a new city, or looking for something a little closer to home, you can ask for a dinner recommendation, find a spot to hang out with friends, learn more about landmarks and attractions, and it can even help translate reviews or help convert local currency.
When you put all of this together, you can start to see how Specs fit into your everyday routine. So, let's take a look at a day in the life with Specs.
Hey, Specs, play my morning playlist. Take me the long way. Hey, Specs. What's this? This striking sculpture is London Manzanard. Take it all in. Keep starring until everything comes. Hey, Mom. Look. Oh, wow. Look up.
So now you've seen a little bit of the way that Specs can fit into your life. But Specs can also bring imaginative worlds to life. And when we thought about the perfect partner for Specs, there's one person that immediately came to mind. Someone magical. Someone who brings people together and a guy who really knows how to pull off a pair of glasses.
So, in partnership with HBO Max, we're bringing the world of Harry Potter to Specs in celebration of the new HBO original series Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone premiering this Christmas. Thank you. So, let's step into the wizarding world together.
Well, the first step for any new wizard is getting admitted into Hogwarts. So, let's go ahead and check the mail. Hang on. What? What's that? Oh, that must be a friend of Hedwig's. Is that a special delivery here? Let me Whoa. Fly safe. All right. I've been waiting for this moment since I was 11 years old. So fingers crossed. Dear Mr. Potter, we are pleased to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. All right, it's good news.
Well, after you get accepted to Hogwarts, it's really important to learn how to use a wand. So, let's check that out. Looks like we have some good options here. What's this one? That's Neville's. Hermione. There's Harry. Ron. I'm not really a Draco guy to be honest. Let's see. I'm gonna go Harry. Oh, let's see. Let's grab Harry's. All right. Well, I've never cast a spell before, so I'm going to need your help. Here we go. Wingardium Leviosa. Wow. First time lucky. Okay, let's see here. Okay. Anybody want to levitate this? Just kidding.
Well, this is just the beginning. And across Specs and Snapchat, fans will have even more ways to discover, experience, and share the magic as the series unfolds. But nothing that you've seen today comes anywhere close to the magic of trying Specs for yourself.
So, starting October 1st, we're launching a Specs First Look pop-up at the Westfield Century City in Los Angeles for a hands-on preview. And before Specs ship this fall, you can come experience them, meet members of the team, ask questions, share feedback, and check out what we're building. And as Specs evolve, so will the Specs First Look with new content, new reasons to come back all throughout the holiday season.
And today we're also introducing the Specs charging case with cellular integration. And it keeps Specs powered and connected. So the experiences you love aren't limited by your Wi-Fi connection. And to make that experience feel seamless, Specs need reliable and responsive connectivity. And that's why we're proud to partner with Verizon to bring the full Specs experience to people across the United States.
Verizon will make it easier for people to get connected with custom wearable data plans, flexible financing, intuitive digital setup, and hands-on experiences coming to select Verizon stores. Together, we're making it easier for people to try, buy, and stay connected with Specs. And Verizon is just the beginning. In France, we're partnering with Orange. In the UK, with EE and we'll have more to share in the months ahead. Thank you.
So, this past year, we've been really lucky to work with some of the incredibly talented people who have helped us push the boundaries of Specs. And we call them visionaries. And these visionaries, thank you. Thank you. These visionaries bring a unique perspective on how Specs can support creativity, expression, presence, and play. These visionaries are all here today. So, thank you so much for joining us.
Kaia Gerber created her book club, Library Science, to help people go deeper into the stories that they love. Just look at a book and add it to your collection. And as you read, you can save a favorite quote, look up a word, add a note, or learn more about the part of the story you're in, all without losing your place. And it's a whole new take on reading glasses.
And Jimmy Butler is bringing his favorite game to life on Specs with dominoes. And any table, anywhere becomes a place to play with old friends, new friends, or even on your own. And if you want to knock down the dominoes in augmented reality, that's pretty fun, too.
And Hoyeon wanted to create moments of calm that you can carry with you throughout the day. So, she's using Specs for mindfulness. You just open your palms, a butterfly appears to guide you through a meditation, from grounding exercises to breathing techniques. And as you complete each practice, flowers grow around you with different blooms and colors appearing depending on the session or the time of day.
And for Jack Harlow, Specs make it easy to watch the movies and TV shows he loves wherever he is. And that's especially useful on tour because when, where, and how he watches is constantly changing. He can pull up a streaming service in the browser, place the screen wherever it feels comfortable, and use a simple pinch to play or to pause.
And Imogen Heap has always been passionate about the relationship between music and technology. And with Specs, she built spatial instruments that are controlled entirely by her hands and her voice to put a new spin on live looping. What I love is how unique these experiences are because each person sees the world differently. That's the whole point. Specs are about experiencing what you love in new ways. Don't just take it from me. Let's hear from the visionaries themselves.
I get excited when technology helps you feel more human. For there to be a way of using technology that doesn't take you out of that presence, out of that shared experience is really remarkable. When I looked in the mirror, I wasn't mad at how I looked. I thought they looked good on me. First kind of impression of these glasses is like so fashion. I think the most exciting part for me about working with Specs was I get to bring something that I love to do with Specs and Dominoes. Who don't want to be a part of that? Thought it was cool that I had the opportunity to pick out my own thing. Y'all were open to what I wanted to share with it. The main difference with Specs is that you have your body and movement through space, Matt, and ready for music production that feels natural and intuitive. Those are the kind of systems that I want to build. Meditation always helped me to be grounded and make me realize that I'm still here. There were all these things that when I'm reading a physical book, I wish were more easily accessible to me and suddenly now they are, which is such a gift and I hope other people understand the gift of that as well. It's just me and you and we're in the moment right now. We're competing. We're having fun. We're smiling. We're laughing. That's what the world should be about. That's what this is. And then before you know it, you have a whole world of sound and effects at your fingertips. All you had to do is borrow the Specs.
These experiences are just the beginning and hundreds of developers around the world are creating new augmented reality experiences we never could have imagined on our own. And in just a few minutes, you'll get to see some of them for yourself. But before we wrap up, we wanted to leave you with something really special. We've spent today showing you what Specs AR glasses can do, but the real magic of computing happens when it empowers the world's most creative people. So today we have a very special improvisation entirely on Specs from Grammy award-winning musician Imogen Heap. Please join me in welcoming Imogen to the stage.
