So, I tried last time we did the simultaneous broadcast between YouTube and Substack with Substack's new fancy new feature. We had, how do I want to put it? Substack has this great idea of, you know, doing a simultaneous webcast between YouTube and Substack, but here we are live. It doesn't like I wasn't very satisfied with the audio and video quality. Like I went to go look at the YouTube version and I wasn't very satisfied. So anyway, here we are. This is a little pop-up Han Solo for Friday. And I just want to check in after a fantastic evening I had last night.
My friend Michael's in town. My friend Michael McDonald, he's an old Cleveland friend. Oh, by old actually. No, that's not accurate. I've known Michael since I think 2019. I've known him for about seven years, but in that seven years, we've become very good friends. I submit that he's one of my best friends. And so he lives in Colorado and he comes to town because he does executive search and he just started working for a firm that has him coming to New York at least once a quarter if not more. So he was just here, feels like a month ago. It's almost every six or eight weeks he comes. So anyway, he comes for a few days and when he does get here, we try to arrange a really cool dinner like at a really good place. So that's the goal.
So this weekend, what am I excited about? Movies. I want to see The Other Mommy with Chastain. I want to see the new Facebook story, The Social Reckoning. I should see Digger. I still haven't seen Prime Time. And I want to see the Musk documentary. Where the hell is that playing? Anywhere near me? I think it's playing at the Angelika Film Center. I want to see the Musk documentary. She's long. She's like four hours, but I'm into it. I don't really care. Yeah, I'm looking forward to that.
Substack is loud and clear according to Deb. Great. I'm going to actually send this out as a podcast episode as well. Well, that's good. Thank you, Deb. Anyway, yeah, I want to see this just chest situation. Let's go to Rotten Tomatoes, shall we? And look at what the critics and the people are saying about the new releases, shall we? The Other Mommy is doing 20%. Yikes. The Facebook movie 57%. Now, A Talent for Murder, which is this thing about Patricia Highsmith. Patricia Highsmith, as some of you will know, wrote The Talented Mr. Ripley. That she is a fascinating character. Yeah, I love. If you've not read the Ripley novels, starting with The Talented Mr. Ripley, do yourself a favor.
Now, there's another film that's out now called Fjord. I want to see that. And what else? The Other Mommy is supposed to be garbage. Oh, that sucks because I like Jessica Chastain so much. All right, but I will see A Talent for Murder. That looks fun. And please, anytime you get a chance to watch Helen Mirren chew on scenery, it's a good time. Yeah, The Other Mommy looks just like ridiculous, check-your-brain-at-the-door fun, which is kind of what I'm going to need after I finish East of Eden on Netflix.
Now, I jumped into that before I finished my story about last night. And then I got to bounce really soon. This is just a quick one. But first of all, thank you guys on YouTube for watching. And yeah, thank you for joining me there. And if you haven't yet, please consider subscribing. Click the subscribe button, by the way, on YouTube by all means. And then also you guys on Substack, subscribe as well. And if you become a paid subscriber, I do more exclusive stuff for y'all. So there's that little commercial.
Last night my friend Michael, who's in town, he and I went to The Corner Store, which is, we'll put the link in the show notes. There's a nice Vanity Fair story about Eugene Remm, who runs for the Catch Restaurant Group. He runs and is the brain behind The Corner Store. The 86, which went into the old Chumley's location in the Village, is that Barrow Street? And it's, yeah, it's like around the corner from the exterior used for the apartment building in Friends.
Fran McCamney in the house. Thank you. I will get me a coffee. Thank you, my handsome friend. See, this is what you know, Fran McCamney did this on YouTube. How sweet is that? Look at that. On YouTube, viewers in real time and I think after the fact too can throw some tips in the jar and Fran just did that. Thank you, Fran, my loyal friend and viewer.
So Michael and I went to The Corner Store and just, it's like, okay, so if you ever get into The Corner Store, because it's a hard table, but I'm very fortunate I got, you know, whatever. The Caesar salad, which is next level. It's got the everything bagel like crouton crumbs. The sort of like, oh god, is it like cream cheese? Like they make these little cream cheese cubes like one would roast a marshmallow. They're like toasted cream cheese cubes. Oh my god. I can't begin to describe the Caesar salad. Like it's a little outside the box but not, or colors a little outside the lines with a Caesar but not too far outside the lines.
We had a little French dip. We had a delicious, very fresh tomato salad. I had a plant-based chicken parmesan which was next level. Michael had steak frites which was delicious. I had a piece. We each shared a piece with each other. And then for dessert we had a sundae and, oh god, what was, oh, and the apple pie. Like it's like the McDonald's apple pie but perfected gourmet style. So good. Anyway, The Corner Store is never a disappointment.
The latest addition to the empire is a new place they just opened on Bleecker Street called, um, Richard Catz. We've got another super sticker. Thank you very much on YouTube. Richard Catz with the donation. Thank you, my sweet friend. How great. Bedford Street. Thank you, Glenn. Glenn was correcting me.
Oh, Patty Bruffy. I'll get to that. The other place that we like, Cafe Charmant, is the new place on Bleecker Street opened by this restaurant group. Eugene Remm just opened Cafe Charmant, which was a crazy... Thank you again, Richard. Cafe Charmant is where Theos was. It's also the location some people may remember Manatus. Really nice place. The only drag is that some of these places can be very hard to get into, and you got to get lucky. I'm very fortunate.
But, Lenore, what's going on? I hear her whining. What's wrong, baby girl? You got to go outside. I'm hearing whining. Do you guys hear that? Come here, bud. Lenore, come. Also could be a fly. If she sees a fly, like a house fly. Here she is. What's this? You want to step up and say hi to the people? Make a little appearance. Look at her. Look at this. Is my puppy. I'm right here. Boo. I'm right here. Anyway.
So yeah, we had an amazing dinner last night. Restaurants are one of my favorite features of New York City living because we're not short of them. Very fortunate to live in such a town that's got such a vibrant restaurant scene with so many great options. Yeah, I would say London's another one. And I like places where you don't need a car. I mean, LA's got them too, to be fair.
So over on Substack, a viewer named Patty Bruffy said she is so upset with Scott Galloway for dissing the Upper West Side today on Pivot. Yeah, Scott is a real dick about the Upper West Side and people who don't drink. Like he's a real dick about it. What's interesting to me about Scott, well, like Scott's diss was he was talking about how it's all old people. Like the Upper West Side is not Soho. I'm not a fan of Soho. I like trees. It's too crowded. Soho doesn't have any trees. There's no green space.
Scott has a real, like his version of hot, cool, fresh, and amazing city living is a young, fresh, big-titted, injected-lip element. He loves that and that's not the Upper West Side, you know? He loves to make fun of the Upper West Side. And I like quietly live up here and enjoy it and say, 'Fuck that and fuck that sentiment.' I know better. No, I don't get off on Soho.
He was making a point about Maxim, which is a private club on the Upper East Side on Madison in the, I want to say in the 60s somewhere, which I've been. And he said it's all old people there. And I'm just like, buddy, you're 62. You're not young people. But Scott doesn't seem to see, Scott doesn't realize that or think that or feel that about himself. It's like, yeah, Scott wants hot young people. It's like, bud, you're old people. You're 62. You're not 38. You're one of the oldest bros in the club, I'm sure.
But anyway, yeah, Scott, I love you, buddy. But why, Jimmy? Why you do this to me? Let's see other comments here that I want to address. So I am, I mean, despite what Rotten Tomatoes says, I'm going to go see the Chastain thing because I have four movies a week to use with my Stubs plan. So it's no extra sweat off my back or money to go see like Digger or whatever. I don't care.
So anyway, what else? Books to read. My god. All right. So since it is, I did get this new book, I Want to Be Famous When Everybody and Nobody Is a Celebrity. Just cracked that open. Also, because of the Netflix series, I got East of Eden, John Steinbeck. And hold on, because it's Halloween season, I got myself, because I've never read either of these, and I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I'm going to admit it in front of you, my friends. I got Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, the 1818 text. I got that.
And drum roll, Dracula. Bram Stoker's Dracula with a foreword by Robert Eggers. And I'm excited. So, yes, it's like Halloween is my favorite holiday. This is my favorite season. I was just like getting giddy this morning walking Lenore around the neighborhood and seeing some townhouses that are all dressed up for the holiday. I love it. I love it when people go hog wild. I mean, it's cute when people get whimsical with Halloween stuff, but there is one townhouse over on 88th Street just off Amsterdam Avenue and theirs is like legit spooky.
Like if I were a little kid I'd be freaked out, which I think is part of the, I think you have to freak people out a little bit. Like you can't, I don't think it's too fun to sort of dis-ify Halloween. I think you got to do something that is legit creepy and give especially little kids a little bit of a thrill in the scary department. It's got to be something legit creepy about it. That's part of the fun of Halloween. So, I say go for it.
Let's see. Jesse Morales has a question. 'Been wanting to ask you what boots you wore to the birthday party you went to in Colorado.' I wore a pair, oh god, I'm going to forget the name. Santini. Is that the name of the company? I bought a pair of ankle boots, Chelsea boots from Santini. Brown suede Chelsea boots from Santini. Or is it Santoro? Now I got to look this up. Hang on a second. Santoro boots by Santo San. Is that it? Maybe that was it. Sony. Yeah. Sorry. Yeah, that'd be it. San Anton. Now I know that's, yeah.
I treated myself to a nice fancy pair of Chelsea boots, which worked well with my bootcut jeans, and that's what I wore to the thing in Colorado with my western shirt for my friend Kiara because I love her. Yeah.
Let's see. Someone here on Substack. Lori says, 'I was born on Halloween night in Salem, Massachusetts.' You win, girl. Well done. And I hope you lean into the creepy and you get witchy on Halloween. I really do because it's in your blood. All right. Matthew Snyder says, 'You need more Sid Mashburn in your life. Love that place.' Matthew Snyder, I'm not going to disagree with you. I love Sid Mashburn. I love his whole boy-from-Atlanta aesthetic. He's got great taste.
What's wrong, honey? That's my dog. Come here. You want to say hi to the people? Come here. Get up. You got to get up here to say hi to the people. Oh my gosh. He's right here. Anyway, I love Sid Mashburn, so yeah, thanks for that. And that's all I got. Yeah, you, I meant Santoni. That's exactly what I meant.
And Sid Mashburn is great. I probably do like way too much shopping at Suit Supply, but Suit Supply has staples that I need. Like I know like when you need a blue suit that's going to last you, you go to Suit Supply. They have great knit ties. I just bought two of them. They're on their way. And I like their silk knit ties because they end in a point. Most silk knit ties are squared off at the bottom. Their silk knit ties come at a point. So, I got a navy one and a black one, and I like that. So, like simple basics like that.
But, yeah. Oh, yeah. Sid Mashburn. The suits are very well made. And I'm a fan. If you're not, guys, if you're not familiar with Sid Mashburn, get into it. Okay. Renee here says, 'Hello decorations aren't truly legit unless they make you at least gasp, although I do love me a gorgeous pumpkin setup.' Oh, by all means. Suit Supply is a great problem solver for men on a budget, but it's well-made stuff.
But what were we talking about? Halloween. Yeah, you got to scare people a little bit. There was a guy, and then I got to go. There was a guy someone set up. I think it was on 88th Street. Oh, the scary one I'm thinking of is on 87th between Columbus and Amsterdam. It's closer to Amsterdam on the north side of the street and it's a walk-up and they go nuts and it's kind of great. I love what they do, assuming the same people still own the house, but for like the last, I think, five years, all the years I've been living up here.
Anyway, I was walking Lenore and I think this was on 88th Street just off Central Park West and some guy had like a human-sized zombie he had set up standing next to a tree. It scared the shit out of me because I didn't notice it until it was over my, and like I noticed it over my shoulder like directly behind me as I was like, Lenore was just kind of like walking slowly sniffing her way along the sidewalk. It scared the shit out of me.
So anyway, that's all I got. Lenore is begging to be taken out. I got to go. So yes, if you're Halloweening with your house, be festive and all that stuff, but also consider doing something that's legit creepy. Not, don't give someone a heart attack, but do something that's creepy. Yeah. Yeah. Put stuff in the shadows. Yeah. Fun.
Anyway, that's it. Thank you, Fran, and thank you, Richard Catz, for your contributions. There's from Fran right there, a little tip in the jar, and my friend Richard Catz right there. Another little tip in the jar on YouTube. Thank you both so very much for hanging out. Thank you guys for chilling with me on this Friday. Have a great weekend. I will be in touch. Thank you so very much. Bye for now.
