And in retrospect, I now realize that those years on the coffee plantation were definitive ones because watching that coffee grow taught me life lessons that have defined my life as an adult and as a business person. So I have a lot to thank Karnataka for. But there are three major lessons that I have carried over from c”

About Anand Mahindra

Anand Mahindra, Chairman (Non-Executive) of Mahindra & Mahindra, addressed shareholders at the company's 80th Annual General Meeting in August 2026. In his remarks, he described the global economy as moving from old-style globalization to more selective partnerships, with supply chains being reconfigured and countries seeking scale, stability, manufacturing capability, talent, and trust. He said India is increasingly seen as a credible answer to these demands, noting that approximately a quarter of all iPhones are now manufactured in India. Mahindra also highlighted the company's patent growth from 56 to over 1,300 in the last decade and announced a prospective investment of 15,000 crores over 10 years in Nagpur. He characterized the current moment as one calling for "attack mode," which he defined not as reckless speed but as strategic acceleration, or speed backed by preparation, confidence backed by capability, and ambition backed by execution. At the Mahindra University Convocation in Hyderabad in August 2026, Mahindra addressed graduates, drawing on his own career experiences, including an early lesson from a Japanese mentor who challenged him to create an environment for improvement rather than doing hands-on work himself. He described the evolving demands of manufacturing and technology, from lean manufacturing and six sigma to Industry 4.0, IoT, and AI. In a separate appearance in July 2026, Mahindra stated that artificial intelligence will not kill the IT services industry but will make it more important, arguing that while imagining what AI can do is easy, making it work reliably, securely, and responsibly at enterprise scale is harder. He compared AI to a smartphone, saying it becomes indispensable only through the apps, connectivity, and enterprises that bring it to life, and positioned companies like Tech Mahindra as providing that enabling layer.
