Aliko Dangote, CEO of Dangote Group, met with Nigerian creators including Beu Barbie, acknowledging that his generation has not served Nigeria and Africa well and that the youth audience, which gives him the most support, is the one he should face. He promised to appear on their platforms, blaming his advisors Ceil and Richie Shu for not steering him toward younger audiences. He described the construction of the Dangote Refinery at Lekki, noting that the breakwater is the only one made of sand and is now taught in European textbooks as the most sustainable method. He detailed the dredging and compaction process, including 65 million metric tons of sand pumped, about 250,000 piles drilled, 18 months of work, and an additional cost of around 300 million (currency unspecified). He also outlined operational specifics such as processing 700,000 barrels of crude daily, employing about 67,000 people during construction and around 3,000 engineers for operations, and the first pile being driven on July 20, 2017, with commissioning in 2023.

  1. 0:01Be careful. Sir, how am I?
  2. 0:06One more question. Uh, what are you?
  3. 1:14So the question is, when do you think we can have you on the show, sir?
  4. 7:09Properties and people that their property might have had to be destroyed, or were they properly compensated?
  5. 12:04So no time to waste, right?
Beu Barbie 0:01 ↗
It's me. Be careful. Sir, how am I?
One more question. Uh, what are you? Okay, we have 15 minutes. Good afternoon, sir.
Aliko Dangote 0:12 ↗
Afternoon.
Beu Barbie 0:12 ↗
Um, you don't have to stand up. Sit down is fine. Uh, um, I'm popularly, I mean popularly known as Beu Barbie. Um, I have just one question but it's a very long one so I'll just quickly read it out. Thank you very much sir. Um, Mr. Aliko, most of the interviews we've seen you have been on platforms that my generation don't watch. I don't want to mention names so they'll not sue me.
Aliko Dangote 0:48 ↗
Yeah. Yeah.
Beu Barbie 0:49 ↗
But you know what I'm saying. And ironically, um, we are the ones who are interested in investing, um, in your company, want to buy this IPO, want to give it a platform. I'm not saying you should sack your media team.
Aliko Dangote 1:05 ↗
No, but you know, uh, when you finish I will tell you who I blame and who you people should blame.
Beu Barbie 1:14 ↗
Good. But I figured there was a problem somewhere because I really think it's high time we had, um, the biggest, um, man, the man with the biggest refinery on the biggest show on YouTube in the world. Curiosity made me ask. So the question is, when do you think we can have you on the show, sir?
Aliko Dangote 1:34 ↗
No, I think, uh, honestly, the future that we have is actually you, the youth. We, our own generation, really have not really done very well for Nigeria and also for Africa. That's the truth. So we need to sit down with some of you and discuss our own experience, you know, with you, because if you look at it, 70% of Nigerians today, they didn't know anything about Shagari, for example. They didn't know anything, maybe Obasanjo, because he came back.
Beu Barbie 2:12 ↗
Thanks to me, I gave him the platform, sir.
Aliko Dangote 2:14 ↗
Yes, so, so really you are right. Going forward, this sort of audience is the audience that somebody like me should actually face because it is also the audience that gives me the most support and respect. Because when I, when I travel abroad... but really, coming back to what you said, you know, I can only blame Ceil, not my media. Yes. Yes. Because you see, uh, Ceil is somebody that comes to my house almost every day and, uh, he will take 70% of the blame. 30% of the blame will be taken by Richie Shu, that's him there, because they always come. So they should have actually advised me better that, look, Ali, the linkage today, the majority of Africans, the majority of people that you need to talk to, the majority of people that you need to give encouragement to is not the audience that you are talking to. These are your audience. And I promise you, you'll see a great change from today.
Beu Barbie 3:37 ↗
Okay. So the great change will be you coming on the show, crossing with me as...
