3:52How do you get the confidence to look that far out, especially when technology rolling off the assembly lines is obsolete when it gets put into these data centers?
6:07With the brand-new chip, the MI405X with Blackwell versus Rubin, how can you guarantee it is future-proof?
7:16But when investors are looking more critically at spending, concentrated spending from a few gigantic names, why not the new customers who might be smaller but just as valid?
8:55What are the chances OpenAI will own 10% of AMD?
10:46I know you don't want to fund a rival, but would that make sense? Have you considered it?
The Crystal Ball Report has the AI chip giant spiking to an all-time high after the company said it expects data center revenue to jump 60% to $100 billion in the next 3 to 5 years. Stock is up 7.6%. During the company's financial analyst day, CEO Lisa Su said AMD expects the total market for its data center chips will grow to $1 trillion by 2030. Stock is at the top of the Nasdaq 100 as AI data centers are sprouting like mushrooms on a rich and wet forest floor, rich with cash. Grabbing that fast-growing harvest is Lisa Su, notwithstanding poisonous mushrooms that might be there. These are incredible growth targets.
Wonderful to be here, great to be here in New York. Every once in a while, quarterly earnings, a long-term vision strategy with financial analysts, and it's at a big inflection point. The market opportunity is big. Those who have invested in the last 5 to 10 years, ensuring we have foundational technology, this is the time.
When you look at the headline, Anthropic runs the Claude chatbot and says it will spend $50 billion on AI infrastructure, and they will do it in New York and Texas. They use their basic cloud partner and they use Nvidia chips like CoreWeave does, but something tells me you went in on that market. What is your plan to crack that area?
One thing we talk about is what we think the overall market size for AI is and why people are investing so much. The reason is we are starting to see the productivity benefits on the other side for all enterprises. Absolutely, look at this market. We called it when we first started, we were thinking 3 or $400 billion. The last forecast was $500 billion in 2028, and now we see the overall market. So there's a lot of AI demand out there right now, and we've been investing in this space to support these great foundational model companies as well as applications big enterprises are using.
We talk to the large AI users. We are at the stage of AI. I look at this as a 10-year cycle, and what happens is people want access to the best technology. Our belief is there's a tremendous need for training and inferencing chips. Lots of respect for large hyperscalers, working with all of them, and we continue to expand into the ecosystem.
When you say data center growth will top 60% over the next 3 to 5 years, I reference that. How do you get the confidence to look that far out, especially when technology rolling off the assembly lines is obsolete when it gets put into these data centers?
We are moving at an incredible pace. Computing capability, computing chips equate to intelligence. The more you have, the more intelligent you are, the more you can get in terms of productivity, and that's the attraction. Ensuring we get those installed. We've been accelerating the roadmap, so very excited. We're in production with the MI350 family, but we have a big step up with next-generation chips. A number of customers are excited about it. Large partnership with OpenAI, Oracle, partnership with Meta and the Department of Energy. All of this is because we are seeing these partnerships. One plus one is greater than three when you put hardware and software applications together.
I am confident that it is extremely competitive. We will come out with the capability, great technology with benefits and total cost of ownership. Because as you think about these data centers, if we can reduce the cost of AI for the average user, that's a great thing, which means you will have more users going forward. And you do that because of the right technology and the right performance.
We want to cling to our viewers who are brilliant but not knowledgeable in all this. This is a double-wide server rack system that you say will future-proof. Stuff gets obsolete and it costs a lot. With the brand-new chip, the MI405X with Blackwell versus Rubin, how can you guarantee it is future-proof?
