About Patrice Motsepe

Patrice Motsepe, founder and chairman of African Rainbow Minerals (ARM), has recently been active in both his mining and football governance roles. At an ARM presentation in September, he emphasized the importance of conducting business with integrity, honesty, and respect for legality and due process, stating that creating value for shareholders is equally as important as doing so ethically. He also discussed the company's financial results, including improved earnings, a declared dividend of 7 rand per share, and a 54% increase in net cash to 10.2 billion rand, as well as board approvals for the development of the Bokoni project and the recommencement of open pit mining and nickel concentrate production at Incomati. In an August interview, Motsepe discussed ARM's operations across nine mines in South Africa and the company's aim to double mineral output within seven years, while also advocating for African countries to create attractive legal, fiscal, and monetary conditions to compete for mining investment and keep more of the value chain on the continent. As president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Motsepe has been involved in several public engagements. In September, he visited the under-construction Raila Odinga International Stadium in Kenya, expressing confidence in the progress and stating that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) would be the most successful, while also noting that security and VVIP access requirements had led to proposed changes in construction plans. During a press conference in Tanzania, he emphasized that there was "no plan B" for hosting AFCON 2027 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, and cited a Nielsen assessment that the AFCON in Morocco benefited that country's economy by $1.8 billion. In October, Motsepe was seen displaying support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino at a CAF gathering, which drew attention to their relationship amid discussions about FIFA's presidential election.
