First show! First show! Pressure? Pressure? Am I falling apart?
It's the Dior mega-reboot by Jonathan Anderson. Welcome to Dior! We're in Paris at the Invalides for the first big show of the 2025 fashion reshuffle. The new luxury battle starts today. C'est jouissif! Many major fashion brands are changing designers and Dior opens the ball with Jonathan Anderson, the new and sole designer of the French House. It's not a brand, it's La France! There was a lot going on. The stakes are high. The pressure on Jonathan Anderson's shoulders.
I'm kind of up and down, up and done. I'm doing four jobs today.
Rihanna is here with A$AP Rocky. The Queen is here. It was great. It was perfect. I like it. The K-Pop band Tomorrow X Together! Daniel Craig.
This is my first show ever. This is my first Dior show. This is my first show ever.
Drew Starkey. Beautiful, beautiful. We're backstage. In the ateliers.
We did a lot of things, it's like we were in Couture.
And Jonathan Anderson takes the time to explain everything, his vision for his first Dior chapter.
It's like the new type of 18th century ready-made. It's child's play, that's the beauty of it.
There's a new Dior etiquette. Everything has a meaning. We zoom in on the new buttons. Ah, the buttons are new. This is Dior for Summer 2026 by Jonathan Anderson, the first men's collection. He's the best, best in the biz. Very exciting. Subscribe to Loïc Prigent's channel, it's awesome!
Josh O'Connor. The White Lotus, Sam Nivola. Rihanna wears a custom Dior outfit. Yes, she's the first to wear Jonathan Anderson's women's creations for Dior.
Oh my god! How are you? Hi, Riri! How are you? You look gorgeous, let's check you out.
Well, you know, you'd better dress up.
I love this hat. As usual! Rihanna, you look amazing. Oh, thank you sweety!
Thank you! Thank you very much.
Are you in Paris for a few days or only for this? Yeah, we're here for like two more days.
Mia Goth. Sabrina Carpenter. Yosh. Li Yunrui. Apo Nattawin Wattanagitiphat. And Mile Phakphum Romsaithong. Lakeith Stanfield. Joe Alwyn. Hi Manu Ríos. I love how it is cropped. The right crop. Ohh! It's hot in Paris.
The set outside, the set inside. We are in a fairly faithful reproduction of the Gemäldegalerie, a museum in Berlin that displays masterpieces of great painting, where there is this all-powerful sky that illuminates everything. Fashion designers are here to pay respect to the new Dior creative director. It's giving Council of ministers.
Simon Porte Jacquemus. It's important to be there for a first show. We're all curious and excited to see Dior's new vision.
Chemena Kamali from Chloé.
I want to support Jonathan of course, and to be here, at his first show, and to experience this special moment.
Glenn Martens from Martin Margiela, next to Pierpaolo Piccioli from Balenciaga.
I think the respect between designers is very important because we are not puppets. We are just people and giving respect to people is just what matters.
Donatella Versace, who once hired Jonathan Anderson to design her Versus line.
I felt that he was a genius, a very shy genius. So, I knew little by little he would open himself up to what he feels. I think he's one of the most interesting designers today.
Tennis megastar Roger Federer greets Donatella Versace.
How's life? Good? Yes? How about yours? Good. Retired, you know. Are you also retired?
No, I left Versace but I am not retired. It's nice to see him rise.
I did one collaboration with him for Uniqlo and he's a lovely man.
Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, who took over Loewe after Jonathan Anderson. Delphine Arnault, the Dior CEO.
Why Jonathan? It's really exciting to see new creative energy. It's a new chapter for Dior. And that's very exciting.
What's the mood of the look? Oh my God, it's 'we don't want to sweat and stink when it's really hot outside', right? Are you wearing Dior already? Of course! Is that the new label? It's the new collection! Wait. It's the new label!
I swear, I was so excited because Jonathan Anderson was giving his feedback during the fitting.
French icon, actor and director Louis Garrel. In the venue, the guest can hear his voice, reading the Dior autobiography Dior by Dior, Dior et moi. It's time for friendship. Everyone is thinking about getting into the grand salon... When he talks about how he made it, how he designed the entire Christian Dior house, it's really fascinating. It's pretty amazing. It was the beginning of mainstream fashion, as he even went to the United States. So the whole story of Christian Dior is pretty amazing to read. This is the Chardin from the Louvre, recently bought by the museum.
You once gave me a book on Chardin. We are borrowing two amazing Chardin's for the space. One is at the Louvre, which has just been restored. The thing about Chardin is that after a while, I don't know if it's you looking at Chardin or Chardin looking at you. Something very strange happens where the painting starts sending you weird vibes. It can put you in a rather pleasant meditative state. This is the Chardin from the National Gallery of Scotland. It's perfect because it combines Monsieur Christian Dior's obsession with flowers and Jonathan Anderson's obsession with ceramics. Jean Siméon Chardin was obsessed with objects, transforming them into pretexts for contemplation. It'll be the first time those paintings have ever been seen together.
You're bringing them to the venue? Yes! Awesome!
Bernard Arnault, head of LVMH, famously obsessed by all things Dior.
They are extraordinary masterpieces. I helped French museums acquire them. It was acquired last year, in fact. It has just been restored, so it is in a condition that no one has seen for a very long time.
Why is Jonathan Anderson the right choice for Dior?
Because there is a natural affinity between his vision and the House of Dior. In fact, I think that since he has been here, he has been hugely inspired and has been working extensively in the archives. It's quite extraordinary.
How do you feel? I'm very nervous.
No, because you're putting out a new thing into the world and it's Dior, so people have lots of imagination of what Dior is.
He's under pressure, isn't he? Oh yes! But he's young. He can handle it.
My idea is to kind of decode it to recode it, so this is the beginning.
Cruz Kahlbetzer opens the show.
We have the bar jacket with a fy collar, which is ultimately, one of Christian Dior's favorite materials. Un tailleur Bar! A Bar jacket of course! Recognizable for its basque, a kind of shoulder pad put on the hip.
Is that the first one? That's the first look.
There's a coir reinforcement inside to keep the Bar jacket slightly rounded. One of my favorite materials is Donegal tweed because it's Irish. We had this made in Ireland with the multicolor. It's a beautiful tweed! It has red, mustard and blue.
Why I wanted to open with the bar? Because it's one of the most famous jackets in history, and it has evolved. And what I think is interesting in the bar jacket, or in the idea of Christian Dior after the war, is this idea that he looks to the past to find the future. Denim is organic cotton. I like this idea of French cinema, this idea of someone walking in Saint-Germain-des-Près. What is that? What could that be?
The Dior Pink. Xavier Karwas with the best eyebrows of the season. 3,000 hours of embroidery on this coat. Luxury is wearing it with open sneakers. The guy who had the coat with 3,000 hours of embroidery, his shoes were not tied. I saw that, I felt very bad. It's not his fault. No, but I think it's a detail. You think so? Oh, I thought it was a mistake, and now that I know that it's not, that's fabulous.
I love when things are coming undone.
What's crazy is all the embroidery work. See? All the little white spaces between the beige patterns have been re-embroidered with metallic thread.
Is it easy to work with? It's delicate. Delicate? Very delicate. Everything has to be coordinated.
The model mustn't clash with the other models before the show. It mustn't get caught on anything. We always make sure it doesn't get caught, that everything is fine, that he can move his arms. Here, when you look at the pocket, if you lift it up, you can see the same pattern on the flap and the underside of the pocket.
Is everything aligned? Everything is aligned. That's a pain. That's what's interesting too.
I think that's the mastery of a couture house. Shouldn't look like it took 3,000 hours. It just should be in the finesse. That for me is modernity. The cape for the masked ball. Monsieur Dior was crazy about fancy dress balls.
The short cargo pants are a reference to a vintage Dior gown.
The Bermuda shorts with the pleat at the back looked really great.
It's brilliant. He reused dresses by Monsieur Dior. He reinterpreted them on men's silhouettes. It's really interesting.
There's three dresses I was obsessed by Christian Dior, in my life. One is the Delft, which is a dress that is cut like this on the back. And so we applied it to a cargo short and then we cut it like this, on the side. It's super interesting. It required 16 metres of fabric. You see, it makes ruffles like this that follow each other. And we put fishing line in them to keep them in place like that. And that's what Mamadou and Edouard are doing.
A very thick fishing line is slipped inside the hem. What a nightmare! Do you have back pain or not? No, it's fine! He's used to it, I think he must have done 4.
You don't want it to pucker and you want to keep it nice and flat.
