Thank you. Distinguished Mr. Vice President, distinguished American friends, distinguished celebrants. We greet with love and great respect the Vice President of the United States of America in Hungary. Welcome to Budapest. Thank you for accepting our invitation so that we can jointly celebrate Hungarian-American Friendship Day. We have a saying: 'A bird by its feathers, a man by his friends.' We are glad and grateful to Providence that such a great and strong eagle can be our friend. I report: the eagle has landed in Hungary. The Eagle has Landed. And Hungary's ancient bird welcomed it with friendship.
I believe there has never been such a common day in the history of our nations. We are not simply at a diplomatic event. Today we celebrate the meeting of the struggles and hopes of two nations — the golden age of Hungarian-American relations. And the political and business benefits of this golden age are not the cause, but the consequence. The foundation of American-Hungarian friendship today is actually civilizational and spiritual in nature. Today, two freedom-loving nations meet. Who loves freedom more than the Americans? The United States was born in a freedom fight. They fought against a global empire to be free. They built a great country for themselves. It took only 250 years. God bless the United States on its 250th birthday.
And who loves freedom more than the Hungarians? There is no other nation in Europe that more empires have tried to lay their hands on than the Hungarians. We fought against every era's oppressive power. Sometimes with sword and blood, sometimes with tenacious work, but we fought against every empire. We did not win every freedom fight, but our 1,100-year history proves we never fought in vain. The conquerors perished, the Hungarians survived. We live and thrive. We live and thrive, everything is in place for us to be the winners of the coming century. And I believe, we believe, that this will be the century of the Hungarians.
Ladies and gentlemen! The distance between America and Hungary is great. An ocean separates us. Yet the freedom struggles of the two nations are connected. In the American War of Independence, Michael Kovats, a hussar officer, organized the cavalry of the Continental Army. Lajos Kossuth was celebrated in America too. After the First World War, foreign troops plundered our homeland. American General Harry Hill Bentholc personally defended the Hungarian National Museum with his own hands. He prevented the treasures of the Hungarian nation from falling into the wrong hands. The general's statue still stands in Freedom Square. And we honor as a hero Ronald Reagan, who decided to win the Cold War and free the peoples of Europe from Soviet rule. And he not only decided, but also launched it, and we could return among the free peoples of the Western world. Glory to Ronald Reagan.
Distinguished Mr. Vice President, Bartók, Teller, Neumann, Kertész, Cukor, Pulitzer and others are people who longed for freedom, and therefore found a home in the new world. They became successful among you, and at the same time brought glory to their new and old homeland. And I personally remember well that President Bush played a decisive role in ending communism and sending the Soviet soldiers home. In 1989, he not only visited Budapest, but made the reburial of the victims of the 1956 revolution a condition, which eventually happened and led us to the restoration of freedom and democracy. Thank you for that.
Ladies and gentlemen! The friendship between Americans and Hungarians survived even those difficult years when American Democrats wanted to turn the thousand-year-old Christian Hungary into a progressive left-wing country. But you cannot fight the laws of physics. A freedom-loving people cannot be defeated in the name of liberal ideology. It will always end the same way. We are here, and they are no longer. And the Hungarian-American friendship once again shines in its old glory. Ladies and gentlemen, we owe this turnaround to President Donald Trump. He was the one who ended the power of the global elite ruling in the name of ideologies, and proclaimed the era of strong nations. He stood against the progressive elite, awakened and raised all the patriots of the world with a simple sentence: Patriotism is not a sin, but a virtue.
The President showed that patriotic politics is not a slogan, but successful governance. During his presidency, America put its own interests first again, and thereby restored the honor of national politics. His economic patriotism protected jobs, brought industry home, and proved that globalization is not over. He declared war on illegal immigration, dusted off the old law: without borders there is no country, without sovereignty there is no freedom. We have every reason to send our heartfelt wishes from Budapest and wish the American President much success. Trump's success sends a message to Europe too: that the national interest does not isolate, but strengthens. Nations have common goals: to be strong, to be independent, to remain free. We will not let others decide our fate. We will implement our own plans. Our government has been waiting for this moment since 2010. It was incredibly difficult to fight both the Brussels and Washington progressives at the same time. Your victory, Mr. Vice President, was like a resuscitation, and we took advantage of the opportunity. Europe was still catching its breath, and we had already laid the foundations of our cooperation. In politics, besides courage, timing is the most important thing.
You even have to know how to be offended, as they say in Budapest: you shouldn't be offended when you have reason to, but when it's worth it. Ladies and gentlemen, investment in America is visa-free again. We cooperate in the economy, defense, high-level technology, and innovation. We have launched joint programs in energy too. It's that simple. Two sovereign nations working together to make the world a better place for their peoples, and the foundation of this is the love of freedom. Dear friends, there is someone else beside the President without whom we could not stand here today. This person will soon stand beside me. Yes, I am talking about Vice President Vance. In his person, we have found a special friend.
It is difficult to understand us Hungarians. It takes not only knowledge but also patience, because we are an ancient nation, and like the Americans, we consider ourselves exceptional. We know a lot and have vast experience. We take it for granted that others should see what is obvious to us. That's why we don't care much about making ourselves understood. If they don't understand us, the worse for them. Moreover, we cling to our flaws. We believe it's easy to accept someone into friendship if they are flawless. If we're not good enough for someone, as we are, that's their problem. So it's not easy to be friends with us. But Vice President Vance bears all this well. Perhaps because he believes the old Christian prayer: do not look at our sins, but at the faith of your church. And this is especially true for us Hungarians.
Vice President Vance had already written about how progressive liberalism turns its back on the problems of ordinary people, when it was not even allowed to speak about it. He wrote that despite the feigned social sensitivity, the left always ends up attacking its own nation. We know this well too. But we also owe a liberating political thesis to our guest. He once came to Europe, and among Europeans, as a Westerner, he said: 'Europe faces danger from within. Europe will not be defeated by an external enemy, but by internal forces.' End of quote. And with this, he made history. He liberated in Europe those intellectual and political forces that suffered from the muzzle of political correctness. Vivat! Three times vivat to the Vice President. Vivat! Vivat! Vivat! And he has an invaluable knowledge, or rather instinct. A survival instinct. He can tell from afar when outsiders want to interfere in elections. That's why he leads the committee investigating interference in America, because they interfere here too, and they have interfered elsewhere. We saw this in America, we are watching too. And when we add up what we found, it may not be a pretty picture for the Ukrainians. Mr. Vice President, you could not have come to a better place. I recommend everyone keep their hands off Hungary.
Friends, the Vice President's other liberating thesis is that the progressive system binds people, holds back performance, and attacks the values that once made our nations great. He started organizing the intellectual backbone capable of placing America's renewal on stable foundations. That's how we Hungarians came into the picture. We also fought our progressive liberals who restrained the Hungarian people's capacity for action. Our solutions are similar: God, homeland, family, and of course work. This is the foundation of our friendship. Mr. President, it is fitting and just that today we can celebrate the friendship of our nations with you. Thank you for being here with us, friend.
Americans and Hungarians concerned about the future of Western civilization have a common problem. This problem is called Brussels. The progressive forces of the Western world lost two serious battles. First they suffered defeat in Hungary, and this opened the way for other Central European countries. Then they received a huge blow across the ocean — they lost, thanks to President Trump, Vice President Vance, the Republicans, and the American people. Now they have retreated from there. They retreated and took refuge in Brussels. They suffered heavy blows, but their strength is still great. They are capable of preventing Europe's return to traditional Western values and common sense. Progressive ideologies keep the originally Christian-based European Union in servitude. Brussels wants gender ideology, woke madness, and migration to become the organizing force of Europe. They persecute their political opponents. They use EU institutions to silence everyone who threatens their power. Ridiculous and obviously unlawful proceedings against patriots. Financial quarantine, secret service harassment, and complete inability to govern. The continent is slowly but surely collapsing. Yet they want to continue the war in Ukraine. They say they will support the Ukrainians to the end. Their dream is to send their own young people to the Eastern Front under the EU flag. Now, when the world's energy supply is about to collapse, instead of peace they impose more and more sanctions. This is more than irresponsibility — it amounts to suicide. If this continues, energy prices will first skyrocket, then European reserves will run out. When the Ukrainians blew up Nord Stream, they looked the other way. Now that the Ukrainians have put an oil blockade on Hungary, Brussels does not represent us but colludes with the Ukrainians. And let there be no doubt, they want to downplay the sabotage attempt against the Turkish Stream too. They punish us because we alone in Europe pointed out Brussels' self-destructive policies and the Ukrainians' dark games. We suffer daily financial sanctions of one million because we protect our borders. We are under proceedings because we protect our children from gender ideology. They attack us daily because we follow the rules of common sense in the economy and trade.
Ladies and gentlemen, the coming years will not be easy. Europe is threatened by both a financial and an energy crisis. If Europe does not change quickly, it will emerge as a loser from both crises, and then the miracle will be gone forever in the whirlwind of history. Therefore, we freedom-loving Americans and Hungarians must unite to save Western civilization. We must fight. We must close the Russian-Ukrainian war and solve the energy crisis. Hungarian compatriots, but for this we Hungarians must accomplish a task that no one else can do for us. On Sunday, Hungary votes, and this election is not just about us. In this election, we choose our future and destiny. This election is about which path we take. One path is the path of integration, the path of a world where we lose our independence, where we are separated from our friends, and where we eventually become insignificant, where they would order us: weapons to the war, soldiers to the war, money to Ukraine. But there is another path. The other path is the path of freedom. The path of a world where we stand as a proud nation in the place designated by Providence, where we build 21st-century Hungary together — strong, successful, free — where we do what we want. Support for families, freedom for Hungarians, peace for Hungary.
Therefore, from here I ask you: let us stand up for freedom, let us stand up for our nation, let us stand up for our future, let us stand up for Hungary's peace and security, because if we do not do it, no one will do it for us. But if we do it and win now, then friends, we will be capable of enormous things. Then from Hungary will start the European reconquest movement, the Reconquista, which will bring new patriot governments to power, and create the force that will change Brussels after Washington, and turn the progressives' main stronghold into a bastion of patriots. God bless Hungary. God bless the United States of America. God bless Hungary. God bless the United States of America.
