  1. 4:40And when did you give importance to your priorities?
Govind Dholakia 0:01 ↗
Take three years of training in any field. Work for three years, there's no harm. If you say, 'Brother, I've decided I want to work in textiles,' then work in textiles for three years. If you say, 'I want to work in automobiles,' go into automobiles for three years. If you say, 'I want to open this shop,' visit three or four shops — but work in that same kind of shop. That way, if you don't have a thousand days of practical knowledge, the chances of failing increase greatly. So whatever you do, our practical knowledge is very useful. Thank you.
Now, one question — this is a question for my young friends. Everyone struggles in their own career during the age of 18 to 40, in their career, in their education, and with the responsibilities of their home. After passing through all of this, when they reach a point where they can do something towards social responsibility, even a little bit — even though they have the desire — if they are unable to do it, how would you suggest they go about it?
In this matter, as I said, it comes from within. Generosity, your social service, the feeling of doing for others — it must arise from within, not from imitation or show. If it is truly inside you, then you must do it. And if Govind Kaka had not paid so much attention to social work, the company would not have advanced so far. Let me give you an example.
I won't name anyone, but as an example — brother, there are about 100 big industrialists in India who can afford to spend crores on diamonds. Now, if someone asks them, 'Brother, I want to buy diamonds — from whom should I buy?' whose name comes up? Ours comes up. We didn't go looking for that business; it comes looking for us. That's why our business grows.
So in social responsibility, you have to become humble. Only when you become humble will people come to you. This was about diamonds. If you are humble — even if you have a small shop — everyone comes to that shop, because whoever buys goods from you once will come back with three more people and recommend you to four others. We don't have to do anything; we just have to become humble. That's how we will find humble people — to become humble.
There is no shortage of time at all. We sit believing in our ignorance that we don't have time. Time is available to everyone. Fear will keep growing. You should write a daily diary of your whole day — I have been writing a diary for 40, 50 years. We watch everyone else's picture, but we never watch our own picture. The joy of watching our own picture is seeing how many mistakes I made. If I went wrong three times for no reason, then the second time the mistake won't happen again.
If you write a diary daily, you'll know: I went here, then I came here, I met this person, this happened to them, that happened to them. Then we realize where I made mistakes and where I succeeded, and what I need to do.
If Kaka had not paid so much attention to social work, the company would not have reached here. We don't take the company forward; we don't take our business forward. Our suppliers, our buyers, and our staff — these three take the company forward. We just have to support them; we don't have to do anything else. Correct. Thank you.
Now, this one minute — let's do this one-minute one. Now it's one o'clock.
Aniket Sanjay Rathi 4:40 ↗
Jai Shri Krishna. My name is Aniket Sanjay Rathi, and I come from Dhan. I also belong to a family business, but I have started my own startup business. So my question for you was: now you are like a business tycoon in the diamond market — a big name, SRK, that's a big name. When you started your business, as we start in business, many changes keep coming in our life at every stage, in every way. So sometimes it happens with you that in your personal life or professional life, your priorities change. So how did you settle that? And if they don't change, why don't they change? And when did you give importance to your priorities?
Govind Dholakia 5:24 ↗
Brother, as I said the first time — I don't dream of being Mungerilal; I live in the present. Forget the past, because the past is a cancelled cheque — its time has passed. The past is not in our hands at all; that cheque has been cancelled. The past simply doesn't exist. The future is a bearer cheque — if you encash it, money comes; if you don't, it stays. The future is like that. But the present is cash on hand — ready money. Today, our present time is cash. So there's nothing to improve about the present; you just have to live in the present. Whatever I can do today, whatever is best for me today — that's all I have to do.
Then, 'the past was like this, and that one was like this, and in the future this will happen, so I'll do this' — there's no need to worry at all. There is a sentence from Dongreji Maharaj: 'Whoever has a good present has a bright future.' Live in the present. So do a lot in the present — do two times better, ten times better than what can be done today. Do it today itself; don't leave anything for tomorrow.
