Hello Franck Gervais, hello, welcome to Radio Classique. The tourist season has gotten off to a very good start for winter sports resorts, with levels of attendance comparable to those recorded during the post-health-crisis reopening. Is that also the case for you?
Yes, it's true for us. First of all, the conditions were excellent — there was snow, a lot of snow, there's still more falling, there was sun, and there were full weeks of vacation. Our occupancy rates were 94% for Christmas week and 100% in our mountain residences for Pierre et Vacances for New Year's week. So it's truly very good, with perhaps two things to note. Internationally, our international clientele is still there, representing 51% of traffic during these holidays, still.
But within that, because we always have 50% from the UK return — the British are really back in the resorts, and anyone who went skiing this winter can see it. So the British are truly back. And the other thing to note is that our premium residence offerings, which represent a quarter of our ski offering, sell faster and have better occupancy rates. So the prices that have clearly risen in winter sports resorts actually reflect this move upmarket in accommodation, notably in ski resorts. Clearly, when the offering is better, people's satisfaction is higher even if the price is higher. But yes, we broadly see this increase.
You were talking about snow — there's a lot this year, but in the long term the trend is worrying. How are you adapting to the evolution, to climate change?
That offers a snow guarantee — that's fundamental. And then, we're also actors of change. So how do we encourage our clients to improve their consumption? How do we ourselves — when we build, when we renovate? We're currently renovating a magnificent residence in Avoriaz. When we finish the renovation in two years, it will consume half as much energy in terms of its energy footprint. And so we ourselves absolutely want to preserve the mountains, and rather than building new constructions, we need to rehabilitate existing ones and reduce the energy footprint.
That's your part of the job, I want to say. It still remains complicated when you work in tourist accommodation, because ultimately it's the customers who decide whether or not to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with their consumption.
