The president of the United States today has a bit of a problem. His own family says he's a liar. The dam is starting to break within the Trump family, not just within the executive branch. Now, we knew folks like Mary Trump, Donald Trump's niece, were already against him. But now, Fred Trump, his nephew, has come out and said, 'Mr. President, you're a liar.' Why is the president a liar? Well, it's over his claims regarding 9/11. Yesterday, if you recall, Donald Trump made the claim — and I'm going to play it for you in this video — that he was carried out by firefighters out of a tower that was set to collapse, potentially, in and around Ground Zero, referring to the US Steel Tower. He wasn't referring to the actual World Trade Center, which many folks on the left ran with. That was misinformation, and we don't do misinformation here. But he was referring to a separate tower, the US Steel Tower, that had some concerns about possibly buckling under the pressure and collapsing — structural concerns in the days after 9/11. And well, that never actually happened. Trump was never carried out by firefighters, but Trump did claim it nonetheless. And now you have people like Trump's own nephew coming out and saying the president is a liar. And it comes as the president has a real big political issue, and that is the Republican Party is on a bit of a slide right now. You start up here, now it's heading down this way. Why? Because voters are kind of fed up with the direction of our country. And in Dallas, Texas today, there is this midterm convention — the first midterm convention in decades for either party, the first one for Republicans, I believe, in 40-plus years. And the talk of the town in Dallas — I was going to go, but I have a daughter at home who's actually sick right now, so I didn't go. Talk of the town in Dallas right now is: we're eating each other alive. We're eating ourselves alive. Republicans can't get out of their own way, and they kind of see the writing on the wall. So, let's talk about 9/11 because tomorrow — not tomorrow, sorry — Friday is the anniversary of 9/11, the 25th anniversary. It is a very solemn day, a solemn event. Now, the president has made it about himself. Yesterday, he made these comments, and well, I'm going to play them for you for just a sec.
Conquer, and no terror can destroy. For three months after September 11th, the flames raged in the rubble of Ground Zero. For nine months, rescue and recovery crews worked day and night on the site. I want to just thank my people. I was building a big building in New York, and I took the whole crew down there right after this happened, and they had no hesitation. Everybody went down with me. We went down as a big group of people. Wasn't too much we could do. I'll be honest, it was raw. Nobody's seen anything like it ever. We had other buildings — United States Steel Building was creaking, really creaking, and we thought it was going to fall down. The truth is, it creaked a lot. It creaked. The silk creaks, but it never came down. And I'll never forget — two firemen — we thought it was coming down on top of us, and two firemen, big strong guys, and I'm not the smallest guy in the world. They grabbed me under the arm, said, 'Got to get out of here,' and they literally lifted me up. This is not easy to do, I'm big. They lifted me up, and they started running with me. I said, 'Fellas, I can run myself.' But they were amazing.
So that never happened, and we spoke about how that never happened yesterday. But now here's what Fred Trump had to say: 'There are reports out that relate to the tragedy of 9/11. I will comment on them today because doing so on the 25th anniversary this Friday would take away from the solemn moments. I try not to comment personally about my uncle, but his claim that he brought a crew of workers to help at the site so offends me that I need to speak out. He was not building a big building at the time. The only crew he claimed to bring to the site would have been secretarial and accounting employees from Trump Tower. I knew many of them. I'm pretty sure they were not physically capable to help. If they could, I'm sure they would try. Regarding the US Steel Building — ironically, the grandfather of a very close friend of mine was one of the original engineers. The building was built strong. Second, the brother of a partner of mine was an engineer that was immediately called to perform an inspection. While people were originally concerned, it was eventually cleared for occupancy — not creaking and ready to fall. I hope this brings some truth to that story.' Huh.
Calling his uncle a liar. Now, his uncle went on a massive tirade, saying, 'The failing New York Magazine wrote a story that I wasn't down at the World Trade Center after the tragedy of September 11th because nobody saw me there. Well, I don't think I would be the first thing on anyone's mind, but I was there. Obviously, not on the same day as the collapse, but shortly thereafter with a large group of construction workers.' I discussed it today during my remarks on the Ellipse in Washington, DC, for Tunnel to Towers. Everything I said was exactly accurate to prove the point. I'm attaching clips with numerous people, including his head of security,' blah blah blah blah blah, he goes. I mean, it's just long and long and long. But all of this is again a lie. His own nephew is saying that his uncle is lying. I mean, you judge. Who do you believe? You believe the president, or you believe his nephew, who really has no stake in the game here and has no reason to come out and call his uncle a liar? Now, I do want to recall what Donald Trump was saying after 9/11.
Donald, you have one of the landmark buildings down in the financial district, 40 Wall Street. Did you have any damage, or did you know what's happened down there?
Well, it was an amazing phone call I made. 40 Wall Street actually was the second tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was actually before the World Trade Center was the tallest. And then when they built the World Trade Center, it became known as the second tallest, and now it's the tallest. And I just spoke to my...
So that's what he was saying after the Trade Center fell on 9/11. Now Ted Cruz, who is looking for Trump's endorsement, he's running for president in 2028. Hasn't announced yet, but he will. I guarantee you, in the next year, he'll try to come out and say that the reason why Trump is not lying is because it was so long ago he can't remember.
The president's 9/11 story today, he's saying that there is evidence that he was there right after. I mean, he's kind of making it sound like he was pulled out of the rubble, though, with the firefighters. Do you think that's appropriate?
